i would if it was a screaming deal. like the dealer is taking such a loss on it, that there are accountants at the actual manufacturer's HQ raising their fists to the sky and cursing my name.

I dont like anything new, but from a safety standpoint, and to make my girlfriend happy/thrilled/overjoyed/confused-as-to-why-i-finally-buckled-and-bought-a-new-car, i would get her something new, or more likely, a certified pre-owned car from a good reputable dealer. But i've never bought a car for more than $1200, so thats why it would have to be a ridiculous deal to get me to buy one. One neat example that i can think of, and when i came close, was a year or so back, there was a brand new camry i found out about through friends/acquaintances, that was just sitting at a dealer. they couldnt sell the thing for any price, it seemed. It was a weirdly optioned camry - factory body kit, spoilers, etc and a TRD blower. and the car was the typical plain beige camry color too. the sticker was something like 35grand, but they had it sitting in the showroom for about 2 years or so already if i remember correctly, and were using it for demos and thats about it. they were gonna let it go for something like 18grand, but someone grabbed it up at that price while i was still thinking on it.

otherwise, right now, im just keeping an eye out for the depreciation on elantras and kia souls, fortes, maybe pick one up in a year or 2 if i come across a sweet deal.

There are a few new cars Id be interested in...

V6 Stangs
V8 Genesis Coupe
Regal GS
Cruze Eco
Toyobaru twins

Other than that, I really am not interested at all...and, aside from the Eco, Im really not THAT interested...Id be just as happy buying a 2 year old car with 25% taken off the top by the chump who bought it new...CPO is a wonderful thing...

I'm really hoping the 300 hp v6 mustangs fall off a cliff deprecation wise. The GT seem to hold value a lot better, but the v6, I want that car for cheap. All of the other cars I want you bastards want too and it keeps the prices up in the used market. Stop that.

Good thing people buy new cars, so that you guys can buy them used later.

I buy what I want, if it's new or used. Don't care. I like a lot of new cars, and I like a lot of older ones, too. I'd love a Volt, but i also like the new Abarth and Toyobaru, but part of me likes the '13 Fusion (very much an Aston Light) and of course, the '12-13 Mustangs, too (though I'll probably wait and buy one used when it gets as old as my current '06 GT). So all it takes to get me into a new car (I've bought 4 new cars since '96) is the right money at the right time.

Money. 1-Depreciation is not as bad as it used to be for the most part. 2-Obscure option/package combos are near impossible to find used. 3-Manufacturers sell NEW cars, if the only people that buy new are buying appliances, then why should they care to make fun cars.

I bought a heavily discounted 2011 Mazda6 for my wife in December.

She loves it, and everybody fits in it. We'll probably keep it for 10 years.

I'll probably never buy a new car for myself.

This is a brilliant idea. I am going to present it to my (long term) girlfriend later this week.

What it took for me was a combination of getting a well paying job I was expected to show up at, that I couldn't repeatedly use "car troubles" as an excuse for being late or missing. This also coincided with late model used car prices getting too close to new car prices. I'm not a new car snob, though, my 17 year old legacy gets a decent amount of use. Its just nice knowing if it breaks, the newer car is there to hop into.

The last new car I bought was not based on that logic, though. I had spent a year driving a 10 year old Grand Marquis (new enough for me as a daily) when I had wanted something a lot more fun the entire time. Leftover Miatas were going cheap. Nice used Miatas are a bit of a craphsoot in the rust belt. So I went for it.

I'd buy one (almost did a bit over a year ago) if I could afford it. But I spend all of my money racing, and a $300/month payment on an econobox (also factor in crazy insurance for someone under the age of 25) just doesn't turn my crank.

If I had even the slightest iota of extra spending money, I'd seriously consider a Fiesta ST or Abarth 500 (as long as I could get 0% financing). Both cars that need to be bought, both are perfect daily driver's, both are fun. These are the kinds of cars that need to be supported.

I hate that it seems like on every new car you can't rest your arm on the window without feeling like your arm is raised way up. I hate that they mostly feel cheaply put together (even compared to old British cars). I hate electronic throttles. They all seem to lag like a son of a bitch. I hate all the electronic gadgets that are just waiting to go wrong. I could get something new with a warranty that was basically a Caterham 7 with a hardtop I would buy it but the government probably won't let that be sold because it wouldn't be "safe".

A miracle.

And money.

I'm 50, and have never owned a new car.

It might be nice, but I'm not sure I'd know how to act.

If it were free. And that isn't going to happen, so I'll never be buying a new car. And when I do, it'll still need a chip to deal with the bullE36 M3 drive-by-wire throttle, some computer work to disable the super-nanny stability control, things to eliminate the TPMS which never works and just throws warning lights, and it needs to be stick shift.

So in other words, even if it were free, it'd still cost a helluva lot to make it a real car.

Meh. I have enough old beaters to last me the rest of my life.

They haven't been able to buy new cars in Cuba for 50 years are so. Those guys still keep their beaters running.

Rear drive, two doors, stick shift, and an OFF button for the stability management. Under 25K. The Chevy Code 130R concept is on the right track, we'll see how it pans out.

For that matter, I've been known to shop for used clothes. Kind of crazy what some people will donate to Goodwill.

We have 3 more payments on our GMC CrewCab we bought in 2006. Only reason this one has stretched full term is because it was 0% financing. Wife and I hate car payments, and we're trying to get at least another 18 months out of both the Hyundai's before we sell one and trade the other for something with less miles/new.

What would it take to get us to buy nnew now? Someone to buy it for us?

Ive been wondering who will be the first to step up and tap into the "I need a cheap AND dependable car now" market, and offer a truly stripped down, crank up window, 5 speed standard shift, non-nav system, non bluetooth enabled, non make-you-pancakes-and-cut-your-hair-on-the-way-to-work, just a basic car, coupe...

Im looking straight at you Honda, and your "Civic" of the last several generations. They used to be the picture of minimalism...now theyre as bloated as everything else out there. I know the car makers make cars their research tells them people want to buy, but seriously, Im people, and I dont want to buy hardly any of their bullcrap...just gimme a motor on a chassis, with a seat, 3 pedals, and whatever is needed to keep my soft bits on my insides when a soccermom t-bones me while skyping on here faceyspaces...thats it please.

Considering I remember getting into arguments with people back when the SRT4 was new, all because it gasp didn't have power windows in the back, I'm gonna go ahead and say that any company that did that would get universally bashed for not having anything and nobody would buy it, except for me and everyone who wanted one.

The pricing is all out of whack. The cars I could afford, I don't want, and the cars I want are $30k+. $30k is a LOT of money. I know that the automakers consider it one step above entry level, but out here in the real world, that's real money. $50k is house money, not decent semi-luxury car money, but not according to the car makers.

So as long as cars keep costing what small houses should, I probably won't be buying new.
