Annie and I are having a great couple weeks in Palm Springs, CA. Same hotel we've stayed at a twice a year for the past few years (the Coyote Inn). We've connected with people we see at the hotel regularly, as well as locals, and people we haven't seen since our first visit here. So "Bruce," who I first met here a couple years ago but haven't seen since, and I have developed a good personal connection because of our interest in cars. I planned to go to the McCormick Classic Car Auction this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I love just hanging out there, enjoying the "car-guy atmosphere," soaking up the sun, and feeling that I'm somewhere where I really want to be. Bruce wants to go there with me on Friday afternoon. But then he's suggested plans for Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon elsewhere. Wives included. That sort of cuts into "my time" at the auction. Well, I know we'll be back at the next McCormick auction here in February, so no big deal. I value social relationships. So I'll probably roll with this. What are your thoughts on this? Do you value social relationships over car events, or vice versa? I'm leaning towards meeting him halfway, where I can at least hit the auction until around 3:00 pm, and then Annie and I join him and his wife for afternoon and evening activities.

You need friends who like cars.
Just tell him you already have other plans for Saturday and Sunday. You don't have to say those plans are to go to the auction without him.
Next time holler, I will come out and meet you , if you need more car friends. HEHE. Man I escaped RI and never want to go back and its terrible excise tax.
I keep my car friends away from my other friends, thus its all segmented. I don't go on vacation or other things with car friends. My car friends are "me time," essentially. So my "car friends," come and hang out at the house and do car stuff, but I don't go to dinner with them with wife etc. Before marriage/kids, I used to hang out with them all the time, but the car demographic is more varied, and doesn't always jive in the correct social circle (hard to explain).
My vacation and dinner friends, are normal boring people who dont care about cars, aside from status symbol.

Hey, you are way up on me. I just don't have any friends. ![wink wink](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.png)
Car friends are my only friends. It's why my wife likes me doing car stuff. It's good for your health to have friends.

I absolutely could not take 3 days at an auction.
