Cops: Mom forced fight between teen daughter, older girl

Daily Record staff report • October 8, 2008

DOVER -- A woman has been charged with taking her daughter to another teenager's home and instigating a fight between the two, police said.

Sharon Quintero, 29, of Dover, was charged with simple assault, conspiracy to commit simple assault and using a person under the age of 17 in the commission of a crime, said Lt. Frank Coppinger, a department spokesman.

The trouble started at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when Quintero went to her 14-year-old daughter's school to pick her up, Coppinger said.

The daughter complained to her mother that she was being picked on at school so Quintero drove the daughter to the home of a 15-year-old girl who had allegedly been picking on her.

At the 15-year-old girl's home, Quintero got out of the car and grabbed the girl and asked if she wanted to fight her daughter. The 15-year-old said no but Quintero told her daughter to fight, Coppinger said.

A fight ensued between the two girls and the older one received abrasions and a black eye, Coppinger said.

A 911 call reported the fight to police. Officers responded but Quintero and her daughter had left the scene by the time police arrived. Officer Michael Pier talked with the older girl and was able to track down Quintero and her daughter.

The 14 year-old was arrested for assault, which is being handled in juvenile court. The identity of the girl, who has a different last name than her mother, is being withheld because she is a juvenile.

Quintero was charged and later released on her own recognizance pending a court date in Dover Municipal Court. The Division of Youth and Family Services was notified about the case and is also investigating, Coppinger said.

Hmm... 29 year old mother - 14 year old daughter...

Why am I not surprised that she lacks the judgement for responsible parenting skills?

Way I see it, the problem is she didn't bring a kiddie pool full of chocolate pudding. And a video crew.

An outrage, I tells ya! To think of the lessons these poor young girls are learning, not wrestling in pudding...

Now had this been guys where would be the outrage?

I'm not even sure I'm outraged here.

Older girl is picking on younger girl. Usually this happens with a crowd around older kid as this is the way bullies work.

Mom gets the older girl alone and encourages a fair fight - finally.

Prior to the hurrah over it the Older girl had learned a lesson. Now what lesson has the older girl learned.

I've seen this exact scenario, minus the press, at least a dozen times, but it was always guys. Everyone applauded when the bully got his ass kicked.

I was always taught that there are only 3 times when fighting is acceptable: when somebody insults your mother or your girlfriend/wife, or when they hit you first. You are the stronger person, and have no reason to hit anyone other than in those three situations.

I don't really know the rules for girls though
