Our boating experiment is drawing to a close. What suggestions does the group have on places to list it for sale? So far I have craigslist and boattrader.com. Are there other good options to use?

About to em-barque on this adventure for 2 of my boats as well. I plan on starting out free/local (because one boat doesn't have a trailer) by posting it on Craigslist/eBay Classified ads, some boat forums, and also flyers up at local tackle/marine stores. If that doesn't work I'm going to stage 2 (think light bulbs) and posting it on Boat Trader and eventually eBay auctions.
What kind of boat? Some brands have dedicated forums which would be a good start.
You could make a video and post it on YouTube:

I sold mine on ebay. It was a 30ft deckboat that needed some tlc, so the market was limited. I doubt it would have sold on the local CL, but I put it on ebay, got over reserve, and cried huge crocodile tears of joy when it left.
I love the thought of a boat, but never seem to find the time to use one.
Thanks for the good thoughts. I wasn't thinking ebay but may try it.
It's a Hurricane 217 outboard.
Cotton, we're in the same boat (pun intended ). We love taking it out with the kids for tubing, etc, but doing so ~3 times per year doesn't justify owning a boat!

They have a free classified system which might be good to test the waters before going full auction. Otherwise I believe the fees are $60 if <$2000 sale price, or $125 if over.

Out of curiosity, where would you take it? Can't think of any large lakes nearby (Newnan's seems pretty small), although I guess you could take it to the Santa Fe river.
I hate craigslist. I had over 50 calls on the last car. The 2nd guy to show up bought it. Everyone else just wanted to chat, I guess they were lonely.
I like eBay better. Or parking it at the car lot of a friend and give them a list of mods and your price.

Lake Santa Fe is the usual destination. Great, spring fed lake. We've also taken it out at Cedar Key and Steinhatchee.

Good thought. I might make some calls to folks I know that know folks with local lots!
In reply to Enyar:
I am in Flint MI, I want a sunfish, so that I can teach my neices to sail. They are 4 and 11 years old and the hobie is too fast and big for them.
I want to get a small sailboat too. I think it would be fun to learn, and there is a small lake near me that would be pretty good for it.
For that kind of boat & location, I would suggest these other two outlets:
Really your best luck will be on Craigslist. BoatTrader isn't what it used to be.
Didn't realize you were in FL, that makes things easier. I believe THT charges for classified ads and I don't think it's cheap. Plus, that crowd probably isn't interested in a Hurricane deck boat. What year/motor/price are you thinking?
Also, if it doesn't sell by April I will be making rounds of local stores (West Marine/Tackle shops/ETC) posting up flyers for a Whaler and Sea Ray I am selling...maybe I can put up some flyers for you too? Tampa isn't too far from GVille.

Thanks for the offer. I'll PM you a little later with details. Don't want to turn this thread into a classified ad.
You'll need to log in to post.
