Obviously, they've arrested the usual suspects.

Something bigger later that required a level of current secrecy to accomplish.
Not the "plane captured as a weapon" theory, that requires an insane amount of resources and many major oversights on the part of the target country. Not to mention the extreme difficulty of hiding the plane up to this point.

I'm thinking improbable terrorism theories are fueled by the insane amount of incompetency displayed by the Malaysian government.
My theory that the Russians shot it down in a botched attempt at blaming the Ukraine is getting some takers among the conspiracy nuts dumb enough to talk to me.
This might seem cold hearted towards the families, but here is my proposal for what it is worth.
Lets just write this off to "whats done is done and not everything has to have a reason". Move on cause the only beneficiary here is CNN and its friends.
Then lets take the money that was going to be spent over the next year, and put it into a fund. The fund could be used to respond to the next disaster where the money might actually do someone some good; like feed or house displaced people.

Putin would not be hiding this, he would be bragging. Probably have his picture taken (shirtless of course) amidst the rubble.
Gradual decompression or carbon monoxide poisoning from fire. Crew set the autopilot to figure out the decompression source or extinguish the fire... and the plane kept flying until it ran out of gas.
In reply to NOHOME:
Putin can't brag because the second part of the plan didn't work. Stealing a page from Bush he has the plane shot down over the ocean, then explosives he planted years earlier as a young KGB operative would go off leveling the Naberezhnaya Tower. He would then say Ukrainian terrorists were responsible and invade the Ukraine. He was even scheduled to read Rechenka's Eggs to some grade schoolers the next morning. Unfortunately the Soviet era explosives failed to detonate but the plane had already been shot down.
It was a tough sell at first but I have some die hard truthers that come buy trying to get me to tell them about my role in 9/11 and some of them have really taken to this story. Of all my hobbies this could be my most entertaining.
If anybody shot at it, I'd be guessing some major navigational berkeley up putting them over North Korea.

Looks like I was a few months early.

I thought it would be an article about this:
http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/17/world/europe/ukraine-malaysia-airlines-crash/
"If you like your SU-25, you can keep your SU-25."
Incidentally, the Russians, like us, don't sell their top of the line versions of stuff to their "friends." The Russians refer to their export versions of tanks and stuff as "Monkey Models." So going up against the Russian version of a fighter with the monkey model is not going to end well.
Oh, that's not good.

Shouldn't there be warnings about flying over war zones?

Yes, yes there is:
NOTAM (notice to airmen)
(pdf file)
I think it has been shown already, Malaysian airlines may not be the most competent airlines.
I know reports are just coming in, but I can't see the rationale for this one... even in terms of terrorist logic.
Shoot down a Malaysian commercial airliner with 300 people onboard en route to the Netherlands?
Ukraine has stated they didn't shoot anything and blamed terrorists. It always seems to me that there's at least a reason terrorists blow stuff up... disagree with religious principles in a region, blame the US for things (twin towers), etc., but what is the point of this? Just to show you can maybe? Target practice?
Very sad.
In reply to xflowgolf:
The Ukrainian official stance on the ProRussia uprising they currently have happening is that the separatists are "Terrorists" Hence why the Ukrainians said it was an act of terrorists.
I think this leaves no doubt that the separatists have larger SAM setups than was thought. They downed a Ukrainian cargo plane that was flying about 10k ft last week and the world said "Awww, they must have been flying lower, because they don't have those things"

Rumor I've read is that Russia claimed they shot it down until they realized it was a passenger jet. Things will unravel for someone.
