Alright guys I have 2 cars here local I'm looking at picking up and I'm trying to decide which one to grab so I thought I would see what you guys thought.

Both cars are currently non runners and can be had for virtually the same price and are in the same location (requiring me to trailer them home about 40 miles).

The first car is a 1979 Olds Cutlass a hideous green on green combo. However it is a very clean body and interior, engine is not getting fuel from what the guy said and it needs the shift linkage for the auto trans. With this car I could basically use it as a parts car to finish up my current '80 Olds a little faster by swapping out some body parts instead of repairing original panels or build it into a cruiser while the '80 is built into more of a beast.

The second car I'm starting to lean to more and more. It is a 1969 AMC Rebel SST with a factory 290. The car has a little over 97,000 miles and has been owned by the same family since new. Car has been sitting for 9 years and has a dented in driver side door and front fender. Door looks like a fairly easy fix though the fender would take a bit more work.

So whatcha think?

Yeah, who wants to be in another Me Too can when you can have an original AMC?

Any idea how difficult it would be to locate parts for the Rebel?

On a side note it would go with my name on here as well

well the both option is out the window as we just loaned family a big wad of cash. Hmmm though I guess if I sold the Thompson I could maybe get both and cover it solely with that money.

If I could get my Buell sold then I could buy both and build them both for challenge budgets lol.

AMC Rebel. The Rebels are my favorite AMCs.

Well we have hit a snag I have received the pics of the car and it turns out the Rebel is sadly a 4 door not a 2 door. I was thinking for some reason the SST was a 2 door only thing

Oh here is a pic of the Rebel. Apparently it had been parked on the street because the brake lines were needing to be replaced, someone came around the corner and hit the driver side denting the fender and driver side door.

4-door Rebels are still sharp cars. Is it anywhere near me? I can narrow the choice for you if it is...

P71 its actually about 40 miles or so east of me here in eastern Oregon so across the state from you. If I decide against it and you are interested I will pass on the info for sure.

From what she says her mother was the original owner and she got the car when her mom died. From the photos she sent me the car is basically all stock completely unmolested. I'm almost thinking of a possible cruiser build for the car?

My 1st car looked pretty much just like that except it was maroon and called an AMC Ambassador. It had a 343. It was built like a tank. Good memories....good memories.... Go for the AMC!

The full-size AMC's make great cruisers. I grew up with a 69 Ambassador 4-door. It was blue on blue on staggered Cragars with a good dual exhaust and just sounded the business. Wasn't all that fast (original 290, swapped that out with a 304 when it got tired) but it was the perfect beach cruiser in Florida.

Well I'm in negotiations with the AMC and figured it would be a good cruiser. The woman said she would be very flexible on the price knowing it was going to someone that would fix it up and take care of it. Remember it has been in her family for 40 years.

I'm also working on the guy with the Olds to see if I can possibly manage to swing both cars so we will see. If nothing else the Olds would allow me to finish the '80 quite a bit faster.

EDIT:

Oh yeah guys I also need to ask providing I do get the AMC what will be the steps trying to fire this sucker back up? Its been sitting for 8 or 9 years and I have never dealt with a car that has sat for that long before, well except the Olds but its getting completely torn apart and a fresh engine being built for it.

WD40 down thew cylinders, change the oil and coolant, prime the motor with fresh oil, fresh gas in the tank, fresh plugs. She should fire right up. Clean all the gunk and carbon out and change the oil again.

P71 do you know where I would be able to locate new brake lines for it? Would a place like NAPA have them or will I need to order them online somewhere? She said those were leaking originally (one of the reasons it was parked), so I imagine they are the factory ones and never been changed so that will be a must before driving as well.

Rock Auto might, otherwise there are a ton of AMC places. I know Classic Tube and Inline Tube both carry various AMC line as well.
