I just made a sales call to CSX headquarters in Jacksonville 2 months ago. Good luck as the railroads are slow to change.
I grew up about 50 yards from I-94, and my bedroom was on the side of the house that faced the highway. Depending on the condition of the roadway, it was very loud at times. Within a month, I couldn't sleep without the "background noise". On the other hand, most guests had a hard time sleeping the first night when they stayed at our house. They usually adjusted with a day or two.
Several people visiting my house commented that they had trouble sleeping because of the quiet before we got some huge wind chimes.

My parents live in the middle of nowhere. It's a mile to the nearest road or neighbor. Dark as 10 feet up a well diggers ass and silent as a tomb. I keep a small fan and a LED light in the closet of the room we stay in. The sound of silence is deafening, the absence of all light is almost claustrophobic.
Grew up in a small town in Indiana a block away from train tracks. I never remember being woken up by them, lived there for about 5 years. Moved to a town down the road way away from those tracks in another small town and it took a couple weeks to get used to the uninterrupted quiet at night.
Here in Tucson I used to live next to the Air Force base. Lived in town for a while before moving to this house so I'm used to hearing planes all day. There I could hear them play the national anthem during flag raising and lowering in the mornings and evenings. Instantly got used to the added noise. Loved it though, nee house we moved to a year and a half ago is a ways away and still hear planes but its way quieter.
Side note, I think jet noise is a close second to race cars for most awesome sound of the planet. But here we have mostly A-10s and F-16s and they are the quietest jets when they aren't getting on it. When stuff gets flown in for decommissioning or for an air show, that's when the loud stuff gets here.

We were on Atlanta Road between South Cobb Dr and the south 120 loop. This would have been '95-'97. The crossing was at East Dixie Street, and we were just south of that. When they widened Atlanta Rd several years back they leveled the duplex we lived in and built over it.

Oh yeah, the railroad tracks were right there. That is pretty close to the square. I used to go to Chattahoochee Tech near there.
I lived in a condo at 41 and delk road. Glad I don't live there any more.
I live not even a mile from CSX and Septa (PA regional rail) tracks and the various train noises don't bother me in the slightest bit.
