Saw this on eBay. Thought it was interesting....
Judging by the watermark on the interior, looks like the water may have stopped short of entering the engine cover vents.
(Stupidly, I clicked on that fully expecting to see an actual U-boat for sale, which would have been all kinds of awesome )
Yeah, I thought the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago might have been having a fire-sale. LOL
I'm not sure the car is worth it tho. Seems like quite a gamble.
Yea, that is a tempting gamble...the fact that it doesn't have a sunroof (that I could see) makes it a good candidate for a racey-type car.
I wonder what it looks like up close. I've seen plenty of cars that look great in person, but look like ass in person.

Dude, consider being a man of fewer words...or more words, either way, it's up to you, but that didn't make any sense.
If it indeed suffered salt water immersion, its done for..shame.. but i wouldn't touch it... with allot of work and complete dis-assembly it might run /drive again.. but eventually itll rot from the inside out..

I would've had to ask the same question with this Po-shay.
This car is just done for.
Assuming you make it a race car, the ruined seats, dash, carpet etc are no big deal. You are stripping all that out anyway. And if you mediablast the car to bare metal to seam weld and reinforce and add a cage, you will take care of any long-term corrosion issues with the body. The engine is a flat-6, so you know all cylinders were underwater for a while so figure a complete tear-down, resurfacing and rebuild. The electrics will also be toast from corrosion, so you have to pull the loom and replace. Proabaly want to trim it down a little anyway since you got rid of most electrical items. So the result is if you were planning on spending huge bucks making a race car, then you could save a few on buying this Uboat. Or, but a used car that was not submerged, and sleep better and spend the same.
arent porsches galvanized anyways (i know they started in the 80's do they still?)
if so, i doubt it would rust, you would just need to take out the interior and scrub and you would be fine. (id bleach it to kill any nasties)
(of course im disragarding the electronics, you would have to basically rebuild the system to be able to trust it)

Yeah, just a matter of time until the druggies come up with one of those. They are already building semi-submersibles. http://gizmodo.com/371308/home+made-drug-running-submarines-used-to-counter-engine+sniping-helicopter-coast-guard
Which if you thing about it, lets drug dealers buy more Porsches and it all circles back on topic

you know thats not a bad theory..
Dear Drug Dealers of the world,
Please purchase many exotic cars. Make them be powerful and fun. Own many of them so that you may draw attention to yourself. So that one day, I will be able to purchase them, bullet ridden as they may be, at government auction.
Thank you,
A cheap biotch.
