Why can't I attach a picture to my post?

I used to be able to click on the little image icon and upload a picture to my posts but now when I do that, I get some crazy long message in a foreign language where the image should appear.  What is going on?

Yes, I do that and it goes through the little % thing to show it uploading then it goes back to the words in the preview box, when I click to post, no picture shows up

Screenshots would help.

Is this on your phone or a computer?  If it is on your phone, is it Android or Apple?

Has it been a long while since you've posted pics? Clear cache/cookies.

I cleared my cache and I still can't post a picture on my laptop, but I can when I do it from my iphone

Yeah, something is keeping it from uploading.   You should have a preview (possibly distorted) in that area instead of the red X.  

I'm not sure which file types are supported/not supported, but that is where I would start to troubleshoot.

I wonder if it did upload, since there's a link to the file... but, for whatever reason the site isn't interpreting it as an image file (big red 'x', and no width/height listed).

can you grab the link that gets dropped in the URL box, and see if it goes to a file?

Are they by any chance JPEG format photos taken with a Nikon?  I can't upload those -> link to my thread on the issue

Just testing an upload. I wanted to see if the picture looked normal.

The foreign text made no difference.  The picture uploaded and looks ok. 

Just trying to post a pic, looks like it worked this time
