So, maybe 4 years ago Joey48442 came over and brought his little drone. I remember thinking it was cool, and I told him he needs to get that away from me because he was going to make me buy one.
I just bought another drone. Should be here Tuesday. That makes 5 currently.
my wife is gonna kill me.
A friend of mine once said "It doen'st have to be this, but it has to be something" in regards to his latest obsession. He was very self aware.
I feel your pain. I got back into disc golf a couple years ago. Mama finally discovered the "practice bag" in my trunk the other day.
I currently own pretty close to 200 discs

Did you get your comment in before March 2nd?
In reply to sleepyhead the buffalo :
Absolutely. Not that it'll make a difference, but mine is in there.
You don't want to see the pile of unbuilt models and Warhammer figures that I made a fort out of..
My Son-in-law gave me a 3D printer just before Christmas. Now I have three...
I got back into film photography last May with one 35mm camera. I now currently own four cameras in two different formats, four lenses, and a tripod; I have six rolls of film awaiting development and five more waiting to be exposed.
Last night I caught myself looking through camera listings on eBay...
Anybody want to buy any radio control cars ? Good ones...
How about airbrushes and accessories ? Good ones...
I know the swimming to the bottom concept very, very well.

Dad gave me Grandpop's old outboard from the early 60s. Now I have more than a dozen of the stupid things, and only one of them is in running condition. From the late 40s to the mid 60s
Get a 3d printer, then you can make drone parts. Although you won't be able to afford the electronics due to your subsequent filament buying addiction.

Or ... You'll be too busy printing stuff for your printer...
Yeah, there's a corner of my basement full of equipment for high power rocketry.

I was talking about this with my father one time when I was in my late 20s and he was in his late 50s / early 60s. We were discussing a friend who had just bought his latest expensive, shiny, new motorcycle.
He said: "I've had the motorcycle experience too. I know what it's like to ride one and own one. I don't need it to be the fastest or the biggest or the fanciest. Having had the experience is good enough."
That really struck a chord as one of those casual pearls of wisdom my old man laid on me.

One of the FB groups I'm in is for filament deals and 3d Solutech had a code for 50% off (that they later said was and "accident" and implored some to return their orders. I ordered 7 rolls and two of them were masterspool so I'm printing spools now. I also have almost all the parts I need for my MPCNC machine so there's that.
In reply to minivan_racer :
I'm probably in the same group. I missed out on the Friday deal.
I'm kinda the same way but not as much as some of my friends.
I do find I need a topic to be digging on, to be pursuing, to be learning about in order to be happy. Most of these never go further than internet research, but some do. And they are almost always connected to experiences. Some of those experiences grab me deeply enough that they become lifetime passions. Some of the experiences lose their luster, or are too fleeting to keep pure and those hobbies are replaced by others.
Cycling is one that's stuck around. Cars too. The newest one that will keep going is boating. The ones that came and went are too numerous to remember.
Like he said. It doesnt have to be this, but it has to be something.

Are you printing the parts to make more printers to make more printers?
I've only gone to the deep end with cars and computers. Recently I realized that I need to keep a lid on the number of computers...
...after setting up a personal NOC.

I've had one (or more) for almost 6 years. It's my other hobby

No, but the thought has crossed my mind. I do have a Thingiverse thing saved for printing CNC router, though.
I have the same affliction. Be it a hobby or just collecting stuff. There are piles of collections of past facinations around my house.
Anyone want to get into RC boats. Stop by my house and I will load you up. How about RC cars. The plane junk I already managed to give away. Serious offer. Stop by. Bring a large vehicle.
I still collect mechanical clocks. I've probably have 40 of them. Most purchased cheap and not working. I tinker with them and get them running again. The latest was a mechanical time clock from a factory. Even the time stamp still works.
My latest kick is carved masks and figures. I find them in antique shops and junk stores while traveling.
I picked up this guy in Maine last summer. He's about 90 pounds of granite carved by a artist that had a display at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. I'm sure I paid tourist prices but he is simply too cool.
And found this guy in a antique store here in town a couple of weeks ago.
In reply to Toyman01 :
Went into a building here in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago for work that had 3 million plus hand carved items from Africa. It was amazing to say the least. You'd be in heaven.
I've tryed several "cheap" hobbies and have the same issue. Like having an rc rock crawler that cost more then my real daily driver. Or pc gaming turning into way over built custom rigs
I have this problem too. I ping-pong from one interest to another, diving in way deep, then bouncing to the next and immersing myself in that one. Recently I started buying a crapton of slot cars and slot car parts and static models to convert into slot cars. I bought some MDF for a makeshift table and put down a small track. Half the time I can't even drive the cars around it until I clean up all my current projects.
Before that, I spent way too much on Legos. Before that, I forget what it was, but some things come back around repeatedly, like model cars and video games and computers. I also keep buying extra sets of wheels for my real cars. Oh, one time I got way into buying Nike shoes of a certain style that I liked.
