I was able to get a title for one of my cars through a company in Michigan (I'm in TN). There were a few requirements, like the vehicle needing to be pre 1985, but it worked out for me and the cost was $100 bucks. He also does motorcycles.

I knew the vehicle didn't have a title when I bought it, but it was cool enough and cheap enough to take the risk....worked out.

In Michigan, you can have the vin run by the Sheriff to see if it's stolen and then get a sign off

Its an 83 in primer. Appears to have an aftermarket sunroof sadly, though I have enough extra G bodies laying around to cut a patch from. In the add it says the turbo is missing from the engine, so that is a biggy. However I figure even if the engine is not salvageable I could go all out evil and build a twin turbo 411 Olds out of my diesel block and shove in it. I even have a 12 bolt rear from a GTO that would fit in the car to help handle putting down the power from that engine.

sure just send me an e-mail. cottonyzf @gmail dot com and I will forward you all the info.

Also, this guy doesn't charge you until he has the title. He was great to deal with.

Because MI isn't a compact state. Their search is only within MI borders. BTDT. Also, depending on the last "real" titled state of vehicular residence, you may or may not have title troubles when registering in the original state.

how cheap is this car? i only ask because you can buy a running/driving 84 or 85 with the original drivetrain for $2k if you don't need it to be pretty and are willing to wait for one to pop up, and they are better in pretty much every way than the 83 model.. better suspension.. better rear end with better gears.. better engine with sequential multiport efi and distributorless ignition, 200-4r overdrive trans, a cleaner dash and interior layout...

An update. A friend in the area went to go check on the car for me and said it wasn't even worth the trip. Rear glass was smashed out, frame was rotted away and the entire turbo setup was gone.

I'm glad I at least had someone in the area that knew these cars to go check it out for me so I didn't have to waste a couple tanks of gas in the truck, that is a spendy proposition anymore.

Ah well the search continues...though as I think about it I keep thinking about that monster Olds motor I plan on building some day I am kinda thinking maybe it should go into a FE3X clone or something...
