I've been watching The Flash and Green Arrow, for the last couple of weeks. My wife has been watching Criminal Minds. Man, those are some depressing shows, so I started looking for something fun to watch. Not stupid, but fun and funny, and here really isn't much to be found. It's either sitcoms, that I can't stand to watch; reality suckitude, that should never be recorded for fear that it will be discovered in the future; or dark, depressing, stories about people so miserable, it's a wonder they don't just commit suicide.

What's a good funny and fun series on Netflix? Entertaining without being depressing or stupid. Tonight was Lilo and Stitch. It was a perfect counterpoint to the depression I've been watching lately. Great fun!

Next up is the Penguins of Madagascar.

I agree with your assessment. I can't name a single show on television that I watch regularly.

Californication for adult humor.
A bit predictable and sometimes a little far fetched but if you suspend those portions of reality then Hank Moody is a fun character.

Sex, drugs and rock and roll.

30 minute episodes that build on one another. You can find yourself knocking out 3 episodes in a row.

I don't watch TV much at all, but if Ridiculousness is on inevitably I can't help but sit down and watch...unless it's a rerun.

I know you said no sitcoms, but as someone who also much prefers lighthearted humor over drama and depression, I have greatly enjoyed the following on Netflix:

-how I met your mother
-the it crowd
-coupling

The latter two are British comedies/sitcoms. Jeff on "coupling" has some great rants.

Coupling is good. Sort of TV show Friends combined with HBOs Sex and the City style risqué surrounded by Whitty writing.

Seconded on Bob's Burgers, and extra emphatically seconded on Coupling.

It's old and sci fi, but if you haven't seen Red Dwarf, it's certainly worth trying..

This year, we have a new baby so lots of time at home.
In the past year we have watched every episode of Adam 12 and Emergency.
My wife was not all that familiar with either but loved them both.

Unfortunately, I can not find CHiPs on Netflix or Amazon prime.

We watched all 9 seasons of How I Met Your Mother a few months back. Besides the part where I never cared about Ted, but yet the show was centered around him telling the story, I still thought it was funny.

Modern Family and The Middle are two sitcoms I'll watch.

DC's movies and TV shows are purposely depressing. It's their "thing"

Agent Carter should be right up your alley though since its Marvel and well, pretty damned awesome.

Others:

Archer

Rick and Morty

Mythbusters

Black-ish

Fresh off the Boat

Seinfeld

Have all been in rotation in our Hulu account.

I heartily endorse all the shows in this post, particularly Archer and Rick & Morty.

I like a lot of modern cable dramas like Game of Thrones, Fargo, True Detective, The Americans, Halt and Catch Fire, and a few others. As well as shows that recently finished like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Justified. IMHO, we are living in a golden age of TV drama, and have been since The Sopranos. Yes, there is a lot of reality show crap, but there's a lot of good stuff, too. Yes, they can be a bit "down", but for my wife and I, the sitcoms offset that.

My recommendations are fresh off the boat, the muppets, Simpsons, family guy, Hawaii five-o (new one).

In the not on anymore realm, magnum pi and burn notice are both sure shots.
