Nobody who mods feels like reading every post
Then perhaps you should wait until there are some complaints. Isn't that what the little button is for? To alert you to something you need to look at?
If you are reading every post on this board and saying "pass/fail" in your head... perhaps you need to go out to the garage and tinker some yourself. I mean... if I knew that I'd be working harder to keep you jumpy :)
I'm certain that there are more articulate people than me and I'm sure some here visit more than the two or three message boards that I do; however some boards (like 914World) prohibit political - religous threads for good reason. In these threads, people that normally play well with others, present valid, well thought out points of view become fire breathing hell and damnation types if your political, religous or sexual preferences differ from theirs.
Margie & Co. have done well to let it ride and then squash a subject when it turns vile. Remember that we are a happy by-product of GRM. Their mission is to sell magazines, potential advertizers visit here. Can't have the inbred second cousin in the sales room.
I could be wrong .....

Nothing is gained from political discussions on forums, and only one of two things will generally happen.
1. People will agree and nothing will change
2. People will disagree and can result in animosity between them
So there is literally no positive to political discussions in this type of environment, as 99.9% of the time no one's perspective or feelings on an issue will be changed.
Seriously? That's an interesting viewpoint. What is a forum but a place to discuss ideas? (And this is Off-Topic, after all.) "People will disagree and (that) can result in animosity between them," therefore we should never discuss potentially fractious subject matter. Democrats shouldn't even bother talking to Republicans, and we should build a wall down the middle of the country and everybody can pick a side.

This is pure gold, as in 24 karat.

When it comes to non-car related topics, 1988RedT2 and I typically have differing views, but I think he hit this one squarely on the head.
I will add one concession. Like 914 said, this forum is here, but for the grace of GRM...if they want to tell us the boards are solely for the discussion of left handed vs right handed shoelaces, then, well, I suppose we really dont have any place to argue (righties > southpaws btw). If Margie et al say no more worshington hootinanny, then so be it.
I enjoy healthy discourse. I appreciate intelligent debate. But I guess the off topic section of a car forum paid for by advertising dollars may not be the best place for this. I know I have in the past gone a tick north of warm in ideological threads, and I often need reminding that I like most everyone here. So if threads get locked, I dont really mind...I should probably keep them at arms length anyway.

Alright motherberkeleyer. Now you've done it. The time for healthy discourse is at an end. Prepare for a smiting - lefty style.

Meh. Sounds kinky enough.
Why are these threads always more entertaining than the threads they reference?

Because everyone focuses on being funny rather than grandstanding?
I am the funniest motherberkeleyer on here, and I'm not grandstanding!

No, to find out who's funniest we would have to a modified cage match where poopshovel and wally are locked in a room with 1) laptops to post from, 2) an unlimited supply of redbull, and 3) a picture of the clown.
I'm not funny, I'm just insane.

To make it funny they would have to start by retrieving the laptops, naked (ok, bunny ears... but that is it), from atop oiled sliding boards to Benny Hill music.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
just sayin... that is all...LOL
About the only thing that makes less sense than posting flounder topics in the first place is asking why they got locked afterwards.

Where does reading, then replying to them fall in your pecking order?

Consider it friendly advice...we are guests on this forum, so we should pay attention to the wishes of our hosts. We've all been around here long enough to know which topics are acceptable and which ones aren't, and pushing the issue after a topic is closed won't get you anywhere.

Well, it amused me almost all the way to lunch - and I've got to work from then until midnight so... mission accomplished.
If no one bothered to try to put something interesting out there we would have to read about another miata.
Getting stabbed over Cheetos > Miata.
Dude, seriously, get a hobby.
Might I suggest old cars?

In addition, the original post was referring us to a link that had information that could potentially be important in our decision making relating to the election. I understand that the subsequent discussion may or may not have been productive, but the original post itself could only be informative to all who read it. Maybe that's why the thread was locked instead of deleted?
