I was just wondering the same thing myself... and when a link shows up w/ no explanation I'll just skip the entire berkeleying thread. 
I dunno about that, but the '+1' button has made me lazy lately. Sometimes I find myself just up-voting the comment closest to my own opinion.
Yeah... my iMac has video card issues, can't play anything on youtube. So I'm missing out on a lot of relevant threads. 
I am both a guilty and an affected party.
affected - no you tube access when browsing (like now) from my kindle DX.
guilty - I have made posts like that

I agree, and it's annoying when I'm at work and don't want to watch a video.
Guilty as charged, but if a picture is worth a thousand words, how many is a video worth.
Maybe we need a video thread to go with the hotlink thread.
