Also why you shouldn't change lanes if you can't see well ahead in the lane you're going into. I almost changed lanes from close behind a slightly slow-moving SUV into the back of a nice '70s Starlet which was for some reason, rolling along at jogging speed on the highway. If I'd pulled out just a tiny bit later I wouldn't have had enough time between seeing him and hitting him.
I despise people who do that so much. Its so common out here though I just come to expect it anytime an off ramp is coming up.
Seriously plan more that 50 meters in advance.
The worse part is that it look like the Focus had time to pull back into the lane but panicked instead. I am not sure I would have reacted fast enough either.
This has been making the rounds and I showed it to my daughter the other day. I think it's the only driving video that got her attention, it's an object lesson in planning ahead and never taking anything for granted.
The girl driving the car is said to have survived but in pretty bad shape.
Hooleee crap. She should not be alive. I wish every darn moron with a license could see this video. People do this around here all the time.
Wow, that's far more effective as a vid than the .gif. In the .gif it looked like a high speed moron, in the vid it looks like something you actually see hundreds of times over and over, it's more effective slowed down. I will certainly be showing the vid to my daughters.
and here's a less dramatic one of how not to merge onto the freeway http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-29728087
I so wish I had dashcams when I used to drive commercial. Never had any serious incidents, but I could have recorded some great asshattery.
The Driver of that car was -very- lucky
I never would have guessed that that was a survivable crash. It goes to show how amazingly safe cars are. The second time I watched the video I knew where to look and you can see that the truck ahead in the off ramp is slowing. No way she could have seen it in time coming over when she did. Eye opening and something to keep in mind when driving.
