i was reading up on Isle of Man TT stuff when i came across this:

News Announcement:

In short, an Isle of Man TT news snippet relevant to the US!

"Major broadcasters sign up to take TT dedicated programmes."

"The US deal is with media giants Discovery Communications, via their high quality HD Theatre Channel, which will be re-launched next year as a motor themed channel called Velocity and will be available in nearly 60 million American homes.

HD Theatre will air all nine one-hour international programmes produced by North One in a nine week summer run on Monday nights in prime time.

Discovery Communications have agreed a five year deal to show the Isle of Man TT Races until 2013."

The whole article:

does this mean we will have another automotive channel that wont focus on NASCAR?

I think maybe they noticed that the only thing anyone watches on that channel is the vehicle stuff (and there's already a lot of it - british stuff like Wheeler Dealers and Classic Car Club, Twist the Throttle, old American Chopper and Overhaulin episodes, Chasing Classic Cars, that Star Racer show). I just looked at my program guide and the channel is at least 70% car stuff already. Hopefully they fill the gaps with non-nascar racing coverage and stop playing the same episodes over and over again of the stuff they already have.

I'm sorry, but HDnet is already WAY better than Speed. I think that is where I saw a British series that involves giving teams an automotive build challenge (with a dollar limit) that results in a race (the one I saw involved "spider cars" that where required to have a 25 foot wheel track), kind of a successor to junk yard wars. They also had a very good show on the Mille Miglia.

this is true, its just a shame that comcrap doesn't include HDNet in their standard HD lineup (that i already have to pay an extra $12/month for, then they want another 4 or 5/month after that for HDNet).

About a third the stuff I have set to record on the DVR is from HDNET. I know, I didn't expect it either, I thought it was the generic not-quite-public-television channel at first, but now I record a handful of shows from that channel. Their commercial setup is great for DVR'ing also, as the commercials are usuall at the beginning and end of the show, so I don't even have to bother fast fowarding through the commercials once the show starts.

Isle of Man TT will be great.

Now if they just add some WRC...

For those of you with Direct TV is HD Net channel 79?

It says HD Net, but after scrolling thru over a weeks worth of programming about all I found was Trailerama, Smallville and Jag over and over again. Where's this fantastic programming everyone was speaking about?

I don't get HDNet for free on Time Warner, so I am not sure what I'm missing, but I am watching Discovery HD Theater right now. Wheeler Dealers is on, they're buying/fixing a BMW 635csi on this one :).

HDNet is channel 79, but HDTheater is channel 76. That's the one everything is on.

Hopefully they'll add WRC and some DTM/BTCC racing.

That would be so awesome.

HDNet is Mark Cubans channels and now Time Warner dropped him and put some horrible channels in their place. Discovery HD Theater is completely different and is many times better. Cubans channels mostly had shows about girls in bikinis and drinking shows. I miss his channels

I was wrong above...as pointed out, HD theater sounds more like it.

This is the most GRM show that isn't related to GRM. Edd China is GRM's British poster boy.

I agree--Discovery HD blows Speed out of the water in terms of programming.
