Lately I have been looking into a new laptop. here are the criteria
must haves;13", 2gb ram or more, 2ghz or higher duel core processor.
Preferences include; AMD processor, XP( a fantasy)
NON issues; hard drive size, built in web cam, screen options (hd, anti-glare...)
If I can find financing, I may just get it
The middle on fits the bill http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-inspiron-13?c=us&cs=19&l=en&ref=lthp&s=dhs , but affter dealing with the Indians from dell financial calling for my Bro-In-Law leaves me weary of finacing thrue them
Going thrue wal-mart, the "no interest for 12 months..." is slightly tepmting
I have had good exsperiences with dell and would not hesitate to buy another. Toshibas I hear are good, and HPs/Compaqs I might settle for, if I find a good deal. I want to stay away from low end ones like acres.
Lenovo
Seriously. The only reason not to get one is if you can't swing the coin.
Acres? Do you mean Acers? They're hardly low-end. I'd put them WAY above the HP/Compaq twins of E36 M3.
Asus makes a good laptop while we're in the 'A's.

Acer is selling lots of good, inexpensive laptops in the 500-600 range.
meets all your criteria except most are 15" screen instead of13".
why such a small screen?
You might look at the Asus EEEpc. $400 with XP. 16GB Solid State HDD. 8" screen. 8hrs batters.
webcam. 2gb ram, and more. 2lbs

I have been thinking about picking up a Dell XPS 2010 used.
I like the ASUS, but the mini laptops still have a few to many limitations for me.
Go with what you like. I've heard horror stories (and good stories) about Dell laptops, yet the 5 that I've had have never given me problems. (Had one at the past three companies, so 3 there, wife has a 17" laptop and I just got a Inspiron Mini).
I've heard similar reviews of HP/Acer/Toshiba/Apple, etc. Everyone has a favorite and everyone has a "I'd NEVER buy a XX brand laptop"
I think a mini computer is too small for what you want. The portability and light weight are cool, but it's no powerhouse.
