Over the last year or so I've been thinking about something... there seems to be a lack of forum dedicated to winter beaters. Winter beaters seem to range from the rusty civic with all seasons to the purpose built lifted imprezas on studded snows.

I'm sure there are many interesting winter warrior related modifications and builds that would be interesting to people... definitely me.

I'd foot part of the bill for hosting if I knew it would get traffic. I just wonder if you guys think there is any point.

Whats wrong with here? Most of the people here are driving winter beaters but with summer tires.

My beaters are generally all-season beaters. Except they're generally not very good in the winter because of crappy tires and not very good in the summer because of no A/C.

More to the point of the thread, I'd be interested in some beater-tech and/or build logs.

I have several winter/whatever beaters. I could be amused by something like that.

The hardest part about having a forum is building traffic. Reaching the critical mass required to have genuine conversation takes time and promotion.

Having a forum for winter beaters specifically would be extra challenging because you're appealing to a very small group of people. You're facing geographic challenges (There are no winter beaters south of the Mason-Dixon line) and dealing with cars that are typically unloved.

I'm with Ross. Start a thread!

I've been in Alabama during the winter. I saw these all over the road...literally all over the road each time they hit a bump... Don't these qualify?

On a serious note, I agree a winter beater specific forum may be hard to gain traction with (pardon the pun). A lot of people with winter beaters may not be car enthusiasts. Those that are may have other forums already for their beater, such as GRM or a make specific forum. My winter beater is a Volvo wagon, there are plenty of Volvo forums around.

There's forums for everything I own too....

MINI Forum? take your pick

Ms3 Forum? Several, both genre specific and Mazda specific. I own one of the latter.

Taurus Forum? Yes.... it exists.

Prizm Forum? It's a Toyota Corolla for crissakes.

Mx6 Forum? Like I said. I OWN a Mazda Forum. And there is an mx6 forum.

That being said, something about an absolute lulzy beater forum would amuse me. I might look into creating that, for shens.

I have a DD/winter beater build thread on another forum. I wouldn't mind sharing it with everyone here.

It's almost more fun to own a " beater with a heater" than it is a nice car. key word - almost

You could just start a yahoo group =$00.00, if that takes off move up to a forum down the road.

It IS more fun in my world. Something about just not giving a rats ass about what happens to a car is very fulfilling in a zen-like fashion.

The problem with starting a thread about winter beaters is there is only one correct answer......

AMC Eagle!

Cheeeeep, great heater, 4wd, and the ladies love the stylish looks!

Those Yahoo groups are awful. There are plenty of free forums out there that are much better.

I think you could make it work by having different forums on the board for things that people would do to their winter beaters, like DIY cheap paint jobs, innovative (read cheap) repairs, beater performance, beater MPG, and of course a classified section. Before long I think it would become hardcore year round beater forum. I'd visit.

I"m just thinking of the guys who do things like... buy a Loyale 4x4 wagon, lift it 4", throw some huge studded snows on... put on the rear winch, dual battery setup, battery blanket and block heater, roof rack and light bar... that would be the top end of the spectrum. The other end would be guys who just want to keep their automatic ford tempest going down the road!

It may be that spending time on Subaru forums has rotted my brain. I don't know.

You could just make a beater forum. You could call it Beaterworld, piss off the Bimmerworld guys.

Stay tuned kids, I think i'm going to investigate this further, as long as no one gets mad at me for horking the idea. I already have hosting, so that's NBD. Now to come up with a catchy name. I like Beaterworld- but that brings back baaaaad memories. www.hardcorebeater.com? Iono.

"Winter Warriors"? Takes all the "beater" jokes out of it..

EDIT: Heck, I don't have one, don't need one (I'm a Southern Boy who stayed here), but I'm enough of a car guy that I could actually write something that might start a "mission statement"..

"Cars like this are our companions for much of the year, every year. For the average motorist, it's to keep the real car from wasting away-and losing value. For the classic car enthusiast, it's often to keep a piece of automobile history out of the harsh elements, keeping it "healthy" for as long as possible. Regardless of the reason, many of us often have an almost emotional attachment to the trusty steed that gets us to work and play during the dark days of the wintertime. Tell us about yours! Every topic is welcome here..from how to keep your winter ride alive as long as possible, to winter driving techniques & equipment, to how you get it running on a cold morning, and to what you do with it during the spring and summer. It's far past time that we celebrate the much-maligned cars we use as pawns in our chess game with nature."

If you think it's any good, change some words up, make it your own. It ain't plagiarism if I give you permission, right? You probably can improve it, since you have first-hand knowledge about these things.

Ahem. You live in Florida. You don't need the 4WD. You should give me this car so I can make it through the Northern Illinois winters.
