As the title reads: our Honda Fit has dutifully worn a set of Hankook iPike's for nearly 5 years and it's such a champ in the snow I'm not afraid to get it some new shoes. Just hoping to save a bit of coin, is all.

The original Winterforce and Altimax Arctic are both being phased out and replaced by new versions- might be able to find some tire shops clearing out the old styles.
After realizing the "all-seasons" on the xB are a very loose definition of all-season, I'm tempted to throw some cheap snow tires on it now. I wish the kid that sold it hadn't gone up to 16", I'm thinking 15" (or even 14") would be plentiful and cheap.

In my experience, 195/65R15 is where you want to be. The step up to 205/55R16 is costly. They are virtually the same rolling diameter.

They were phased out a couple seasons ago. The Winterforce II is best described with adjectives that would probably get me moderated and a stern talking to. It's so bad that it makes the original Winterforce look good. (I was not a fan of the original - poor ice traction, middling deep snow traction, and merely okay dry pavement traction. And they kinda sucked as rallycross tires on a 100hp front-driver, too)
Used could be a good option as well, i got a full set of like new studded tires on 14 inch american racing rims for $225 because most thought winter was over
In reply to Knurled. :
The magic of the original Winterforce is not that it's a great snow or ice tire (since it isn't)- it's that it's one of the best mud tires you could get in normal car sizes, and happens to be drivable on snow as well.
I liked the original Winterforce. I thought it was a good snow tire but an terrible road tire. I haven't driven on them in >10 years though

I'm still of the opinion that the original winterforce is the best stock class rallycross tire for anything except super cold/snowy conditions. The winterforce 2 is definitely not as good overall, but is better in col/snow (like actually useable as a winter tire) and still good enough to be fun and win in most cases. We have a set of each and our strategy is to save the originals for important events and use the 2s for local events at least until we can't win on them. But when the 2s wear out we'll probably try out something else.
As a Canadian, winter lasts until at least late March. But people in Florida consider winter to be over when the checkered flag flies on the Rolex 24.
thanks for the reminder!! i keep meaning to look them up for my van. Sunday afternoon when it started snowing i was like, "should i bother getting winter tires? why wouldn't it save my family's lives for $350. well, that's only if i REALLY thought it would save their lives..." and then i stopped thinking about it.
UNTIL ten minutes later i went right through an intersection where thank the Lord there was no cross traffic!!!
225/65/16 - any recommendations on a similar but cheaper wheel/tire set?
