My step-father is the type to casually watch tv while doing things around the house. He likes doing things at the dining room table and watching the tv that is 20' away in the living area (open floor plan). A combination of his aging ears and tall ceilings, and he complains that he can't hear the tv unless its blasting. This is irritating to my mother who would prefer not to hear sports all day long while doing her own thing.

Wireless headphones had been attempted in the past, but they fell out of favor quickly.

We'd like to try a wireless bookshelf speaker that we could place right behind him on the window next to the dining table. The ideal speaker would have a power cord and thats it.

I assume there are no wireless speaker kits that provide both an wireless bluetooth adapter and speaker, right?

After a little poking it seems like you might have to use the old school RF tech. The Bluetooth receiving speakers don't have a control interface to work with the bluetooth audio transmitters around.

Are there bluetooth senders/receiver kits?

Hook one end up to the sender (TV or Audio Out), hook another up to the speaker?

Downside is then I've got two plugs and ugly wiring.

If the TV has a headphone jack you could use a bluetooth gateway to broadcast to a bluetooth speaker that he could set near him for audio. That would localize the sound more. He'd have to be careful on distance from the BT gateway and make sure to charge these devices after use. If the TV doesn't have a jack you could get an RCA jack adapter to headphone jack.

I got my FIL a couple of RF ones a few years back and he uses them every day. He pretty much leaves one plugged in by each of his favorite chairs and turns it on when he sits down. In his case adding something like Bluetooth would be more hassle than bonus.
