OKAY I GET IT!

Yeah, I can't hear E36 M3 guys. In the interest of sleeping baby and a happy mama, the volume on the TV is just loud enough that I can BARELY hear tire noise/when to shift...which all goes to E36 M3 when friedgreencorrado starts telling a story about what color underwear he was wearing at the Petite in 1982.

In honor of my service as an evil republican capitalist/entrepreneur, GWB and the iron triangle rewarded me with a big mother berkeleying TV; so big that I can't use the plebian headphones that you poor, starving people with your high speed interwebz and game consoles use.

So do they work? Will I finally be saved the embarrassment of smoking you berkeleyers off the line only to find we're playing "democrat" (rolling start) rules?

kisses.

Turtle Beach, maybe?

I have a wired Dolby 5.1 set for my PS3 like this:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/ps3-gaming-headsets/ear-force-dpx21.aspx

It's a pretty nice setup. The headset is comfy for all but the longest stints, the bass is bumpin', and the surround sound helps in FPSs when trying to locate enemies.

You can't use the ones that plug into the controller because your tv is too big???

ones that plug into the controller only are for chat...

I have a set of x31 wireless... have 2 sets of rechargable AAA's for it... i LOVE em most of the time... when the batteries die mid game (I mostly play Call of Duty) it sucks pretty bad...

the audio quality isn't bad... I got mine refurb for like $50... being that I very rarely party up with people If I where to do it again i'd just buy a good set of surround sound wireless headphones and figure out something else for the MIC when needed...

the good is you can play as loud as you want even at night... and you can adjust how loud you hear other people on chat...

Yeah, you must not be able to hear. Otherwise, you'd know that I'm the one defending your situation when 15 people say, "WHY DOESN"T THAT berkeleyER HAVE A HEADSET?!?!" every night.

BTW, there was no Petit Le Mans in 1982.

But he's saying he has the tv just loud enough to hear tire skids and when to shift. When someone talks, he can't hear that anymore cause the voice comes through the tv speaker since he has no headset.

I thought he was saying he had a simple chat headset, but that as soon as someone starts talking, he can't hear the minimum volume TV anymore.

Does this mean there are good headsets out there that will play game audio and do voice chatting for XBox360 at the same time? Because that could save me a world of grief from SWMBO who can not abide the sound of racing games. One of the big reasons I stick primarily to PC games.

Oh wow. I didn't know the headset plugged into the controller. I assumed it plugged into the xbox. I saw that dinky 3' cord and was like "well this aint gonna berkeleyin work." Don't I feel like a horse's ass.

No game audio won't work for me though. I do have to have the TV turned WAAAAAAY down so whenever somebody is talking I can't hear E36 M3 else. Maybe I should just give up playing on live as I suck anyway!

friedgreen: Yes, the facepalms on the rolling start were loud enough that I could hear them. hence the post.

They do make wireless headphones that plug into the USB ports in the front of the console. You can have the game sound through them, and have the tv turned all the way down. I don't know if any of them come with a mic though. I would imagine they would, as they are de riguer among the Battlefield and Call of Duty guys. But they ain't cheap.

The standard xBox headset does indeed plug into the controller.

You can also edit the settings so the chat only comes through that speaker, the little knob will then adjust the volume, independently of game/TV volume.

Will it require taking off my foam helmet? As that's the "free" option, I'll give that a shot tonight.

In reply to donalson:

Oh geez, and I already have a pair of USB headphones... except they do not appear to be compatible with the 360. Looks like I'm going to have to invest in another set.

I have a set of Turtle Beach wireless surround sound headphones. I can't recall the model number, but they were top of the line 4 years ago. They've been great! The sound quality is excellent and the surround really lets you hear where things are around you. I've recommended Turtle Beach to all my friends and they all love theirs.

I happen to have an extra refurb X41 headset sitting around. Tested it out once to make sure it works and set it aside. $90 if someone wants it(that's what I paid a few months ago). http://www.amazon.com/Force-Wireless-Digital-Headphone-Surround-360/dp/B002KSPKRS

A friend has turtle beach and loves um. Cheapest I've seen are 60xx on Craigslist and likely obtained illegally. Get since wired ones and a long extension cord from radioshack. Or tell me how long the extension you need is and I'll make you one. Just pay parts and shipping.

We have these headphones, and while they're not wireless, they're around $25 shipped. There are several options for hookup. Sound is good, and the chat volume is controllable separately from game volume. They have their own built-in amp, too.

Swap it out for a turtle creek wired and get some extension wires. You'll get all the audio and voice in you headphones and the other residents of your house wont hear a thing. You'll hear the car shift and all about friedgreencorrado's pink underwear.

That's the plan. Knew I should've gone for the wired one in the first place, but stood in wallyworld going "but what if I want to hear about FGC's underoos while I mix a drink...."
