Er... If what you're filming is police behaving badly, it seems like that really defeats the purpose of filming. Misbehaving police are likely to tell you to stop filming. Then what?

I'm disinclined to disobey police for no particular reason, but this seems like a very good reason to do so. I'd like to think I'd have kept filming, but the scary part is how hard it is to risk the wrath of an officer who is clearly doing things that ought to be documented.

Care to clarify? I can't figure out what you mean by this phrase.

Sigh

The ever dying America freedoms. I think it says A LOT about a department when a police officer is scared of a single woman with video camera. It says even more when a gaggle of cops show up to harass her supporters. Of course nothing will come it. Nothing ever happens to these idiots. Thanks for getting my blood boiling before noon.

lol, I didn't watch nor hear of this video in question, but people around here will flip out a camera to just watch a basic traffic stop thinking something will happen. (those are the idiots)

Basically I will put it this way, regardless if they are in the right or wrong, police around here will tell you to put the camera away and go inside. You choose not to, something bad happens to you, thats on you. He does something that is wrong, thats on him. One way or the other, with current laws in place, there would be no innocent party.

As I said, I didn't view whatever vid was in question, offering an inside view on it.

Sadly there are far too many obedient complacent sheep just like you out there.

If I'm doing something perfectly within my rights, and the cop causes "something bad" to happen. It's completely his fault. None of it is "on me."

Thanks for being the first person to ever refer me to being a complacent sheep, if I ever hear of someone killed videotaping an officer being shot for the "evidence", ill hope it wasn't someone as ignorant as you

Public outrage is the only thing that will ever stop stupidity like this. Someone has to watch the watchers. Our entire government is based on checks and balances so that no one form of governance has free reign over all the others. The people have a right, and a duty, to peacefully check the power of those who have power over us, including the police in all its local, state, and federal forms.

A police officer who arrests someone for filming him in public should be fired. A police chief who won't fire the arresting officer should be fired, and a mayor who won't fire the chief should be recalled.

If the police do anything in public that they're afraid have on film, then they should just stop doing it.

Your solution to cops abusing their power is to let them and blame the victim. And somehow you don't think that's being a complacent sheep?

EDIT: I take it all back. A complacent sheep wouldn't blame the person doing the filming. As such, the term does not apply. You're instead an active proponent of the cops being allowed to abuse their power.

Had a cop pull a gun on me to stop on my bike (he was on one too) for failure to use a signal. Caught him doing the exact same thing the next day. (Before everyone starts, I was guilty of speeding and not using my signal [60 in a 35]) I showed no signs of running and was heading for the first pull off from a very busy road. Instead I did a stoppy and damn near got rear ended upon seeing a 9mm pointed at my mass center. I reported his actions to the sergeant that showed up in the squad car after we stopped, in front of him. He did not deny and the sergeant refused to file a report. Did I forget to mention he damn near dropped his while he was standing, pointing his firearm at me, and sliding the rear tire? I was impressed he kept it up.)

His mistake is I was the bartender to the House and Senate for my state.

He got a desk job after that. Then he left for another department.

I believe videos go along way to keeping both sides, for the lack of a better word, honest.

Exactly. If you're a cop, and not being an abusive dick, the filming works in your favor.l Or at worst is neutral.

Video taping the police is OK (again). I almost wish this had made it to the Supreme Court simply for precedent's sake but this will have to do for now I suppose. (sorry for the j-nik link)
