That's the ironic bit.

I agree. And I'm not sorry.
THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.
Back when VCR's were hot stuff, I had a service advisor who came to me saying a guy off the street had offered him a new VCR in the box for $20. I said pretty much the same thing about scams, he decided to do it anyway.
The guy grabbed the $20 and hauled ass, turned out the 'VCR' was a brick.

That was one of my favorite things to watch. Back before Gulliani ruined New York every so often you'd ride the train back to Long Island with someone who couldn't stop talking about the great VCR, stereo ect he bought off a guy on the street that "fell off a truck". Did they really think that some fleet of trucks was passing through Times Square with no rear doors, chock full of poorly stacked electronics?

I was driving on Interstate 84 in Hartford one day and an old pickup went flying past me with the tailgate down, probably doing close to 100 mph. He was weaving wildly from lane to lane and had a bunch cardboard boxes filled with new TVs sliding around in the back. He swerved across three lanes of traffic to get off an exit and one of the boxes fell out. As it hit the roadway and began its violent roll, it started shedding tiny bits of cardboard, then chunks of styrofoam and finally exploded in a mass of glass and plastic. The truck continued to speed away as if nothing had happened.
And that, my friends, is what happens when electronics fall off a truck.

"Fell off a truck" is actually the euphemism for "corrupt driver stole it from a delivery he was making".
