I think I like my C4 S6 well enough that I don't need the hassle of a B6 S4...
It sure is pretty, though...
The only bad thing about Audi's is fixing them, or so I hear. I love their cars, and unfortunately my wife's A6 2.7T was rock solid reliable for 100k miles. So I could easily be seduced into buying another one.

If there's one Audi I covet it's a Nogaro blue B5/B6 S4 avant. That said, Mrs. Motomoron's B5 A4Q 2.8 30V is so odious to work on - at least anything underhood - that we've sworn off Volkswagen-Audi Group products forever more.
The A4 is looking like it's going to need cats in addition to a clutch in the foreseeable. When I told her what a new Focus or Fiesta ST would cost w/ the A4 traded in to unload it, she was very interested. An hour later as I banged through the gears in the Fiesta ST 2 blocks from the dealer she was sold.
I have a similar one on GT6, I remember seeing this run fast on that short lived show, "Are you faster then a redneck". It was wicked fast.
Everytime I see these pop up I'm reminded of the complexity of the 4.2 V8 used in these and their timing chain setup... on the REAR of the motor facing the firewall.

Hm. To be perfect it needs the blue alcantara interior, not the gray leather one. Still, looks awfully familiar -- here's mine. :)
The gas milage sucks and, yeah, parts are a bit spendy, but I love the car.

Not nearly as expensive as the 2.7T S4.
waaait... is this 4.2 the anvil drive it forever as long as you change the oil so the cylinder liners don't dissolve cam belt 4.2, or is it the 5 miles of timing chain that likes to fail 4.2?
I had a 2001 Allroad with that delightful 2.7T motor, followed by a 2005 Phaeton with the 4.2. I miss them both, maintenance did suck but German motoring is a whole different experience than American or Japanese cars.

It's the 5 miles of timing chain 4.2, but the failure rates are massively overstated on the internet. It is massively expensive to repair if it does fail, though.
