Sorry to hear this :(
When it rains it pours. Nothing will break your heart like a sick baby. Truly sorry man. Hope everything goes okay.
Thanks folks--Emma appears to be doing better this pm..still very swollen, but her mood is much better. Unfortunately, due to the size of the abscess, she needs to continue on IV antibiotics for at least a week...it will be a question of how and when we are discharged now.
Sounds like things are getting better, glad to hear it! poopshovel's right, nothing will break your heart like a sick little one.
Today was a backslide--fever is back, abscess refilled and we are going back for a larger surgery tonight.
And RIP to my buddy Max. I took him in this morning as he couldn't wait.
Thanks for your support and letting me vent.
So, yea, this is still sucking. Emma (and Kim with her) is still in Wolfson's. The second surgery appeared to help, but less than 24 hours later, fever is back and holding. We're looking at a repeat CT--hopefully soon to see what the fudge is going on in there.
I feel like a fell through some alternate reality portal in the past week.
Man, I can only imagine what you're going through, and I have college- and HS-aged kids. My sincere best wishes and concerned thoughts are with all of you. Hang in there, Per, it will get sorted soon.
Damn, sorry to hear that.
Just remember there are a bunch of people out here with all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
hang in there, Per. your job now is to take care of Mama. I don't pray, but i'll think happy thoughts for Emma and the rest of the Schroeders.
Hang in there, Per. Just remember that it's important to manage your (and Kim's) mental state during this. Don't be too manly to take breaks, both alone and together. You need to keep the stress managed and don't get frazzled. Keep coming back here, blow off steam, laugh at posts, or just take a walk or go for a short drive. It's the important part that is often neglected.
Thanks--fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, Kim has gone full momma bear and is staying at the hospital 24/7. I am commuting back and forth (200 miles roundtrip) and taking care of our 4 year old. So, yea, I'm getting the short drives in, but frazzled was about 4 days ago. Numb is today.
The good news is that they've finally grown staph in the cultures so they can work on abx sensitivities--judging by her response to the IV, it's not the one that they're insisting is correct.
So, we've finally got a direction, but not sure if it's too late to prevent a third surgery/anesthesia/recovery process.
if you need gas money for the commute holler, I'll pony up.
if they are growing the staph in a dish thats a plus
glueguy is right on the money. Hang in there. I think I can speak for the board in this; if there's any way we can help do not hesitate to ask.
She is, we were finally discharged this evening. We were anticipating another round of CT scan and surgery last night, but overnight and through the morning, the fever subsided and the area slowly shrunk (some). In all, 8 days in the hospital, 8 days of IV antibiotics, 2 ultrasounds, 1 ct scan and two surgeries later......she's home and honestly, the happiest and most outgoing I've ever seen her--and that's saying something, as she's always been a peach. She's obviously happy to be home and happy not to be sick.
We're watching the remnants of the mass closely and have her on oral antibiotics...It was just one seriously nasty staph infection--that came really out of nowhere.
Thanks for the well-wishes
Great news! Kids are amazing; they not only get really sick almost instantly but recover just as fast.
Holy cow! I can't believe I just saw this. I guess I thought it was the submarine thread.
Just glad to hear everything's getting better. Take care of everyone (incl. yourself)!
