Compare to the standard fitment:
The best bit from the auction is the "seller's remarks" section. You can tell the poor dude who has to write this stuff is struggling for positives.

Come on, after all:
We don't know what happened to the Panoz's original skin, but it couldn't have been too traumatic because the stuff underneath is still in excellent shape.
and,
It does have an old-fashioned, industrial-strength look that might grow on you after a while.
and,
It's steel and diamond plate, so it's going to be virtually indestructible and the red paint makes it look sporty.
and finally,
The most appealing part of this car is obviously the hardware that makes it go...
In reply to Lesley:
The red one is the re-bodied one.
Looks like a left over shed kit from Home Depot.
That's awful, but it's much less awful if you lop that hideous "wing" off and kill it with fire before it lays eggs.
I think it's a perfect donor for a locost body.. except for that eyewatering auction price.. how much can you make back by recycling the body?
I want to believe someone spent a lot of hours, laboring for months, putting this together. Then took a couple steps back to admire the finnished product... Was heard saying: berkeley. Just sell this thing and get it out of my sight.
Then walked away never to speak of it again.
"It's unlikely that any aerodynamicists were consulted, what with the upright windshield and massive wing, but there's enough power coming out of the 32-valve Cobra motor that things like wind resistance aren't really an issue anyway."

There is no question, people here would be all over it at $2016, even if their first plans were to turn it into a naked autocross buggy and a set of red toolboxes for their pickup.

Assuming nothing of the original chassis/drivetrain was screwed up, $4k-$5k would be about my max...though someone somewhere would probably give $10k-$15k.
The rear looks a sorta like a Lotus 7 kit. Getting rid of all the chrome junk and wing would help a little. Strip off the body and use a '27 track T roadster kit?
