Sitting here at work I noticed a notification on my phone from Synchrony Bank (Paypal Credit) saying I had a payment due by the 3rd. Opened up my tablet to check that I had made the payment and yep, payment had gone through on the 26th of last month. Checked PayPal Credit and verified that I had no balance due.
Here is the wierd thing. I have notification history turned on and there is no record of that notification. No record in my inbox from Synchrony.
Odd.
Now a little paranoid that I checked my PayPal account from my phone (via browser, not email link, but I had them mail me a one time code because I can never remember passwords)

If there was a link with the notification it was a phishing attempt.
I've had spoof messages pretending to be my bank as well to verify transactions and log in through their link.
I was waiting for a super-important package at work. Went in on my day off, desperately needed it for the performance that night.... so I checked the tracking. A few minutes later I got a notification from USPS that there was something wrong with my address and it couldn't be delivered.
It was a link to a (very convincing) USPS site where I had to confirm my address... until I realized that it was not USPS... it was US_PS.
Almost got me.

was thinking this as well. last week i got a very convincinglooking email from paypal saying my account was being locked for suspicious activity or something along those lines. instead of clicking the link i went to the app and logged in no problem and had now notifications or anything to say otherwise. Went back and looked at the email and it was from something like 'service_paypl.com', close to legit but missing the A in pal.
Phishing, I get that.
What I do not get is the notification itself. Despite my best efforts, gmail does not give me notifications that I have new mail (where is xbiff?). It was not a text, I have no texts at all from Synchrony (and my PP number is different than the phone with that e mail address).
And I have notifications history turned on, the notification is not in history.
Browser pop up of some type?
Could it have been PayPal Invoice phishing? Looks legit because it is legitimately from PayPal, but the invoice itself is bunk. I've gotten a few of these.

I get that bullE36 M3 e-mail from "PayPal" about 4-5 times a year.
Got another one.
I am thinking this is creepy action by phone and not phishing.

My CC is paid down a bit lower than that right now, but I know I made a payment. Logged in to Capital One, and yep, I made a payment earlier and my balance is lower.
I think Google Assistant is snooping my e-mail and setting up reminders. I do not like that.
Darn scammers will try anything these days. Email me your login and password and I'll run a safety check for you
