You haven't seen people loose their E36 M3 at a 4 way stop until you show up...in a retired squad car. Oi!

Plural Bob Costases would be Bob Costaseses, correct?

My only traffic accident was rear-ending someone (zero damage) who panic-stopped there despite having right-of-way. Bonus points: I was about 20 feet within St. Louis City so the Bellefontaine Neighbors cop who showed up at the other lady's insistence on a report not only couldn't give me a ticket, he and his lieutenant supervisor witnessed her complete lack of injury or vehicular damage. Insurance was thrilled when I got home and gave them two badge numbers of officers who would be happy to testify to the lack of a claim despite me "imploding her bumper and causing egregious neck injuries."

That day taught me two things. It taught me about following distance and it taught me about FIBs.

Traffic circles are awesome. They are putting in a lot around me. One road has 4 in quick succession, great for scrubbing in those new tires!

As long as there is no one else on the road, then yes... But you need to keep in mind the fact that an alarming amount of drivers are mentally incapable of negotiating a simple on- or off-ramp.

Give some of these folks 3 or 4 circular lanes to negotiate within a city block, and they will hit pretty much everything.

I can confirm that St. Louis seems to be the epicenter of the passive-aggressive "oh no, you go" 4-way wave. If you approach an intersection and any opposing party so much as looks like they're going to come to a full stop, DO NOT STOP, lest you be drawn into a full 20 seconds of the "oh no, I insist" game, consisting of hand-waving while avoiding eye contact and uncertain acceleration followed immediately by stabs of the brake. Slow, keep your eyes on them, but roll that sign. Both of you will get out of that intersection with a few extra seconds to live your life, and slightly lower blood pressure.

These are the same idiots who play the annoying sidewalk "do I go left or right; oh, I'll go-- shall we dance hahahaha" game any time they come upon someone traveling the opposite direction on foot.

There have been times I've missed the correct street so I just keep circling around until I get to the correct street. Not a great neighborhood anyway. I wouldn't suggest stopping anywhere around there except for the salvage yards.

The only roundabout local to me is in front of the horse track and casino in Anderson........the one access road to that roundabout is close to a mile long, smooth, divided, and never traveled. The roundabout is 3 lanes but pretty sharp. Perfect for drifting.

they just sorta took the one near me out. It is still a circle for all but one road (that goes straight through the middle) with traffic lights that allow people their chance to go.

This was done to improve safety and lower the time spent getting through the intersection... and more than doubled the amount of traffic accidents and time spent getting through.

What amazes me.. the main problem with the circle nearest me is the FAA Tech centre. From 8 in the morning till 9 and from 4 till 5:30 at night.. the traffic going in or out of that place would make times square look placid.. yet every fix they have applied in the area has ignored that simple fact or made it WORSE for the people getting in or out of there

i saw first hand on my way to work yesterday afternoon why the traffic circle in my area is a bad idea..

i came off the interstate, headed towards the circle. i see a blue 4 door 90's Buick Century approaching the circle slowly from my right.. then it stops with the front half of it's car out in the circle.. then it turns left- directly towards me.. in the circle.. as i get closer and drive by, i see that the driver is a little old lady that looked extremely confused and scared, and i can only imagine how freaked out the guy that came in from my left was when he came around and had the grille of a Buick right in front of him, since they were kind enough to make the middle of the circle a dome of dirt about 6 feet high that keeps you from seeing what's on the other side..

someone is going to get hurt or killed there, but it will totally be worth it because the people in the city can now brag about how they have a traffic circle like the "real" cities do..

Roundabouts are not a bad idea.

Letting people drive who don't know how to is.

Because it needs to be repeated. This must be that %10 AngryCorvair is talking about.

Someone mentioned it earlier, but I'm seeing more and more of the second person in line stopped at the 4 way follow the first car through. Like they all just got a green light. The first time I saw it, I wondered if I was dreaming.

Hey, you super aggressive drivers. Don't try to justify your bad driving habits. Grow up and become responsible instead. I cruise in the slow lane at the speed limit or below, and live to drive the next day. There are plenty of tracks at which to have fun.

sorta the same thing as the older/confused drivers that end up going the wrong way on the interstate ...

it's a very hard decision ( my Mom and I are going to have to go thru it soon) ... the decision to take/stop someone from driving

I was taught in drivers ed its better to act before something stupid happens versus react to other peoples stupidity all the time. Moral was(the instructor was german), defensive driving is a joke.

might be better to temper that a little ... you can be aggressive, in a manner that doesn't cause problems for other ( more timid drivers ) but ( this is the defensive driving part) always be ready for the idiots around you to do something totally asinine
