What about those hollow points with the guide pin inside the cavity and the spiral-cut brass casing that turns into a saw blade when it hits you? Ever seen that stuff? Woah! That stuff was designed with one task in mind: kill your opponent quickly. The guide pin helps keep the bullet on track once it hits your opponent so that it doesn't just do the .223 tumble and go off track. You hit somebody with a .50 round and you'll leave a pretty disgusting one-inch-diameter hole in the back of their chest or head.
I have some of that in .380. It's some pretty serious stuff in the little 380......would be absolutely devastating in a .50

Yes. That is my grandmother. Yes, she is holding an assault rifle. It is, quite literally, the most badass picture I have.
Looks like poor trigger discipline from here unless there is actually a zombie out of frame in the pantry.

I'd say she's safe, since she has her hand around the stock.

Looks as if you don't know where the trigger is on an AR15.

Sure do, finger should be over the guard but not resting on the trigger. The woman in that photo is about 4" away... but I was being silly you ass.

She's getting ready to butt stroke! Everybody knows that! That will make sure the kids clean their plates at dinner....
Gotta admit, cool pic- no way could I get my grandmother to pose like that. I love it.
M1 Garand. 9mm handgun at my side. Machete on my back. Ka-bar on my belt. Dirtbike with extra gas cans. BB gun for hunting food- quiet and doesn't use up good ammo.
Very little muzzle climb on a clip that short. Probably just blanks anyway,to see who the bad guys are. After the smoke clears then the banana clip of hollow points comes out of the moo moo and we rock and rooooollllll!

WTSHTF, I suggest a versatile lineup of firearm options.
Long range- Remington 700
Medium range- AR15 is my pick, I like the 200-500 yard flexibility. AK/SKS alternatives are less good at long distance headache relief.
Close quarters- Can't beat a shotgun. I like my Benelli Nova a lot. Remington 1100 or 870 are also fine choices. The market is littered with options.
Sidearm- Worth having. See also the pistol thread.

Just one? AK. MAK90, specifically, but any AK will do. An SKS is also an excellent choice.
MAK90 here, too. I bough 3000 rounds of ammo in the mid 90s to go with it. Turns out it was a good move. Still have about 2500 shelved.

As badass as the M1 is, the short cartridge life and the inability to reload without emptying it can be a tactical disadvantage - Im a big MoH fan
The rest of the list sounds spot on with the exception of the lack of one key ingredient:
Brass knuckes When it comes to surviving an apocolyptic attack of the undead, accept no substitute! Its hard to chew through brains without a functioning jawbone, even for zombies.
Oh for all those wanting a Desert Eagle I'll just let ya'll know that the last time I fired one the firing pin shot out the back of the gun and hit me in the chest .
Oh as for one of my new WTSHTF guns...
Oh and it still has the bayonet mounted
Boy, a bunch of paranoids here.
I say that while looking at my gun case with both an M1 Garrand and M1 Carbine, customized Remington 788 in 308, Remington 870 12G, a few .22 plinkers, a couple others I won't mention and a few black powder rifles & pistols for the old school bang.
Even have a machete and a couple knives and other misc equipment, I am after all retired army.
Wow Between this:
(armored caterpillar D9)
and all the guns I am thinking you guys are preparing for graboids ...
Though you guys are conspicuously missing an elephant gun (I guess the 50 Cal will do....)
Incidentally this is how I imagine the Hess household...
M-1 Garand and Ruger mkII bull barrell
.22
I have shot 50,000+ rounds out of the Ruger without any prblems other than old dirty ammo problems. The M-1 has had 7,000-8,000 rounds through it with out a problem. I have not shot a zombie with it but it will remove most of a deer's head at 110 paces
I forgot to add that 30-06 and .22 are available at most gas stations and hardwares in N Michigan and most rural areas
For zombies? small rifle with a scope and a silencer. You can carry a ton of ammo because it doesn't weigh much, take zombies out at range without making a lot of noise (nothing beats a .223 bullet bouncing around inside a skull for brain destruction) and large enough to take out small game for survival purposes.
But my favorite noise maker is my 1920 Police issue double action Colt .45 revolver. Even if you run out of ammo it's a bludgeoning weapon.

One of the main reasons I chose the M1 and a 9mm.
Oh, throw in an M5 bayonet, too.

I'm not confident in .22LR for SHTF type situations. It's fine for zombies, but there's no guarantee you won't run into bandits or ill-tempered wildlife. I'd hate to survive all the zombies only to be eaten by a bear.
