Wind and rain just arrived in Ormond.
Yesterday was a pretty nasty storm, but apparently it had nothing to do with Helene. Today is mostly a drizzle. They're expecting the real deal to show up around midnight tonight.

Well. That was a bit terrifying.
Was in the middle of the band just north of Tampa. Interstate was banking left on a turn. I was in the left lane and slowly passing a semi, because of the bank most of the water on the road was in my lane. In the spray, I *saw* the wind gust off of the semi that hit the car. The tires on the back have good tread, but feel notoriously greasy in the wet. Rear end let go and i got a little waggle. 3-4 degrees left and similar to the right before I got it under control.
Doesn't sound like much, but at 70MPH
I stayed away from semis for the rest of the drive.

Then just as quickly disappeared and was replaced with the most humid, hot, still swampass air I've felt in a while. Just went full Myanmar jungle up in here in the course of like 10 minutes. ick.
Its really eerie in the Tallahassee area the last few hours. Just drizzle and no breeze. One can imagine how 100 years ago people got caught totally off guard with the arrival at night of a big one.

Oh man... you can't leave these out there like that. Someone unscrupulous like me will make terribly inappropriate comments.

The eye is just north of us now, maybe 150 miles away over the gulf. The wind is really picking up now. It's amazing how flexible these Live Oak trees are. Wow!
Take a drink whenever you hear the phrase "Hunker down"
Not much rain in St Pete, gusts to 60kts at Albert Whitted airport downtown on the bay.
I'm more worried about surge out on the beach now. Will see if I can get out there later tonight to check on things.
It looks wild for those along the Gulf. Stay safe, indeed. Schools here in Tennessee have closed for Friday due to the potential for flooding and high winds.
Power out. Hooked up generator but I've only got 5 gallons so waiting until later to crank it up. Hopefully Duke energy crews get us back up tonight or tomorrow.
Love those linemen!

Yes and hope you’re back on the grid.
Just got the mail. Pavement here in Ormond is dry.

It's past us down here. We had almost 2 hours of tornado warnings, not watches.
just windy and occasional rain.
Just heard from a tenant there is about 2' of water in my apartment building in St Pete Bch. That was shortly after low tide at 6:40. High tide is around 3am, will probably get another foot or so.
Power out at the house too.
berkeley me.
