Minneapolis has nearly the same number of sunny days per year as Atlanta or Nashville  197 vs 217 vs 205. Sure the Great Lakes are worse but not here.

goes to show you the perceptions people have are incorrect.

230-260 for Florida, depending on location.

Yes, an unnecessary argument.

Perhaps we can all move along and discuss something else.

Thank you.

Related news from GMP Performance:

The North Carolina mountains are a scenic get away that automotive and outdoor enthusiasts alike enjoy. Unfortunately, this past weekend we were all shocked by the destruction experienced by our western neighbors North Carolina due to flooding following hurricane Helene. This will be a long road ahead and the people that call our beloved mountains home are in need of our help.

We would like to help with the efforts to get donations and supplies to the area. We plan to use our car haulers to get them to Boone, NC to be distributed there and surrounding areas. We are reaching out to let you know that we are planning our first run up to the mountains this week.

If you have supplies that you are willing to donate, please drop them off by Wednesday afternoon (10/2/24) no later than 4pm at either of our NC locations:

GMP Performance Charlotte - 710 Pressley Rd. Charlotte, NC 28217

GMP Performance Lake Norman - 292 Rolling Hill Rd. Mooresville, NC 28117

We plan to leave on Thursday morning (10/3/24).

Our goal is to bring whatever we have and also pickup excess supplies at donation centers along the way up. We are hearing that airports cannot transport heavy items such as water so we hope to help get those pallets moving. Our trailers are designed to load low cars and we will be able to use pallet jacks to load bulk items as well as any other single packages.

We are currently focused on collecting as many supplies as possible and are reaching out to various donation centers in the area surrounding Boone. If you know any donations centers that need help moving supplies up the mountain please let us know.

Items that are needed:

Water, Non-Perishable Food Items, Sports Drinks, Baby Wipes, Diapers (Children & Adults), Baby Formula, Bug Spray, Plastic Utensils, Manual Can Openers, Plastic Sheeting & Tarps, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Toiletries/Sanitation Items, Pet Food, Hand Sanitizer, Feminine Hygiene Products, Heavy Duty Work Gloves, Socks - All Sizes (Unopened).

This is only the beginning of the help that is needed in the mountains. We will continue to support the area with as many trips as possible over the coming weeks and months to deliver donations and supplies. As needs change we will update our social media pages so please Follow Us to stay informed.

Thank you for your consideration to help those in need during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Stephen Klitzsch

I'm alive! Massive destruction to roads and bridges (I'm a bit south of Black Mountain NC). Been working constantly since Friday to clear roads. Using starlink for internet. Sorry for the sideways image, but this is my bridge Friday morning. Normally a foot deep creek. Never seen so much water in my life. My van nearly floated away, was able to jump it and move it as logs were floating by. Nuts.

A little more info about the GMP Performance hurricane relief effort can be found here

The TL;DR: Tomorrow (as in Wednesday, October 2), GMP Performance is sending its truck(s) up into Boone, North Carolina, with supplies: water, non-perishables, etc. Want to contribute? Get supplies to either of the company’s North Carolina addresses. They have a loading dock, too, they stress. What do they seek? It’s in the above.

Questions? You can ping them directly. Link to their site here

Cleetus McFarland took his recently refurbished MD500 helicopter to the Asheville area to help with relief efforts. He said it's bad really bad.

Toyman- how are your folks?

I was wondering if he would. He's that kind of guy.

He also organized a small air force of other private helicopters, and they were flying all over the place, flying supplies and people in and out.

It's pretty wild how much damage is around western NC. I've got family in Tryon and despite not being near any waterways there property still got wrecked.

Cell service has been knocked out too, which is another thing you don't think of these days as impacted by natural diasasters that far inland.

My mother texted me, and all of her friends, to go buy 6 weeks worth or TP and all other essentials because of the strike...  great.

When I picked up my BRZ from having a bunch of parts installed on it in Dec of '22.............it was completely bright and sunny.

But it was -10 with -26 windchill. I don't care if it's sunny if it's cold and windy.

Another Helene news update:

Yahoo.com: Hurricane Helene Is Already “Apocalyptic.” It’s Going to Get Worse.

"According to the Associated Press, at least 133 people have died as of Tuesday, with the largest concentration of fatalities recorded in the western regions of North Carolina; more than 600 people from that area alone are reported missing. About 1.6 million people in the affected states still have no electricity, and affected cities in Georgia and North Carolina have shut off running water."

In reply to glueguy (Forum Supporter) :

My GF lived in Palm Harbor with a friend for awhile before we met. I should ask her if her friend is OK.

One of her other friends sent her a picture of her Toyota Camry floating in 5ft of water.

It's crazy how powerful the storm surge is. I can't believe how much sand was pushed ashore.

I'm glad you are alright!

Finally got internet again. Some pics of Hendersonville from Friday morning: (not sure why they are rotated so weirdly)

The toughest part is living in an information blackout. Still almost non-existent cell service outside of main street. The local radio stations have been a godsend, letting people call in and share info they have learned and where resources can be found.
