Just thought I'd ask....if you aren't eating turkey this Thanksgiving, what's on the menu? What "strange" family food traditions does your family have for the coming holidays?
At my Mom's house, among other things, she used to make fudge in 3 different flavors. When she was a kid in the Depression, the fudge was usually a big part of what they got for Christmas gifts, so she continues the "tradition".

looks better than a Turbriskafil.
Tofurkey! I'm not a veggie, but Mrs. Javelin is and I hate turkey. The Tofurkey and Field Roast brand veggie main courses are quite tasty. If Mom has a ham on though I'll have both. Oh, and mashed taters with gravy. And pie, pumpkin and apple and maybe cherry too if I'm lucky.
I love Thanksgiving!
Not sure, we'll be in Jamaica.
So whatever 5 course meal the resort is serving us on the beach.

That's presuming you live that long.
Taunting us with that is criminal. I'm sure there's at least one person on here who knows where you sleep.
Sonic burger in downtown Deland if we manage to miss the plane like last year and the in'n'out-laws again can't be bothered to wait for us to show up with an hour's delay.

This.
Tofurky likes sitting with beer and green beans while cooking. My wife fixes something midwestern, (i.e. a casserole with Cheese Nips and fried onions) and I might just have to make a no-sugar mincemeat pie.
Sorry, going to a condo at Mt. Snow. My son is brining a turkey in apple cider and spices, we're smoking a 12 pounder with apple wood.
Tradtionalist.
Tofurky is gross.
Hit up the local Adventist Book Store and pick up some of their fake turkey product. Much tastier than the Tofurky (granted that is a local product, but it just isn't as good)

Just make sure they sell food at your closest location, the one in Gladstone, OR I know does offer the food products.
The future Mrs Turboswede loves it and their Corned Beef substitute.
I am intrigued.
I'm nowhere near any of their stores. Any idea what the brand name of this fake turkey is? I am almost always game for some new fake meat.
No turkey, I'm cooking prime rib instead. Mmmm. :)
I made it clear about two years ago my distaste for turkey. I would like to try a fried turkey or turducken however. Unfortunately no one except my FIL is interested in such things, so it won't happen.
I hope that I get to one day.
Boars head sweet slice ham with the maple brown sugar glaze . A great ham without to much salt
I hate turkey. I love steak. We usually do steak and some bawler vegetables like proscuitto wrapped asparagus or bacony brussel sprouts and a starch. Takes about a half hour. Unless we do the family thing, in which case we eat all that standard garbage that people take all freakin day to make.

that casserole with Cheese-Nips and fried onions sounds interesting. Tho, with 4 sisters, I doubt I would get many takers...tho their hubbys/significant others would probably help me clean up any leftovers. What's involved?
Turkey for me. Fried, and baked along with enough other stuff to put on about ten pounds in a day.
Leg of Lamb. stuffed with roasted garlic and smothered in a rosemary rub.

Hmm, I don't remember. I do think we saw something similar at the local Asian supermarket, but I think we're completely out at the moment so I don't have a reference at the moment. Might be worth calling a store and asking them.

I'm making the same thing, I usually shoot a bit of cider into the turkey with a big needle before smoking. I'm working that day so I'm going to smoke a couple the night before to bring to the depot. We have some good cooks that bring in food on the holidays.
Sunday after is our big family meal. We are getting a big beef rib roast from the farm down the road.
