I got a $100 gift card to Sears on the condition that I spend it on tools, power or otherwise. I already have most of the basic hand tools, a corded power drill, and an angle grinder. What do I get next? More hand tools? Bigger tool box? Air compressor? Sawzall?
What would GRM do?
I'd save it until I realized I needed a tool for a project, then buy that. Works for me.
Hard to anticipate needs. Unless you really need something sit on it until you do need something like already suggested. I'm in the same boat with $100 at Lowes and $50 at Barnes and Noble
Personally I want a flaring tool and a tube bender (small scale plumbing sized tubing), a new click-to-light soldering torch, and a set of taps and dies for a project I want to complete...Im pretty sure that would eat up a the lions share of a c note. YMMV
I would focus on hand tools. Think back to the times where you've said "Man, if i had such and such tool, this would be cake!"
I've got a grand or two in tools, and it's all hand tools. I'm still buying hand tools. There's ALWAYS something i can use.
A bigger tool box is always a solid choice, though!
It depends on what project you are working on....are you fabricating motor mounts or spaying your track rat?

I agree with the above. I can't tell you how many times i've had to stop and go get tools for a project halfway through.
I buy hand tools on the justification that "oh, i don't have this one."
If nothing else, it's insurance that i won't come to a screeching halt at some point in my life when/if i do need that tool. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
This might also be why i have well over 40 screwdrivers. Over 30 pairs of pliers.
If you buy an air compressor it opens up a whole new world of tool acquisition opportunities![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)

Ratcheting combination wrenches, or a polisher... Whatever the Sears equivalent of the Porter Cable 7424 is. Both big time savers if you don't have one.
I wouldn't buy ratcheting wrenches at sears.
Sadly, the Harbor Freight ratchet wrenches are far superior. It's not even close. I have a set of the Gearwrench and a set of the HF.
But yes.... ratcheting wrenches are AWESOME.
What polisher are you talking about? Is this something i need, too?

Is there more than one Sears store near you currently? For me there is only one which is about 2 miles from my house but the next closest is 30+ miles away. I greatly expect that the one near me could be part of the recently announced but yet reveled list of closing stores.

For this reason, I am loading up my buggered-up screwdrivers to take in for replacement while they are still here.
For you, this may mean that you want to spend the card sooner rather than later.

check the rules on your gift cards - some hit you with a monthly fee - diminishing the value of your $100.
I use these more than anything else that I own. They're $89 right now, but occasionally, Sears will have them on sale as low as $45. The flex head is the key.

Or, apply the $100 toward one of these, which use almost as often:

What kind of work are you doing most at the moment???
If it's metal fabrication, a sawzall is nice to have.
A rotozip is also a nice tool to have.
I'm doing a lot of fiberglass work at the moment and I'm finding that the dremel multi-tool that I got as a gift last year is indispensable, especially with a 24 grit carbide sander attachment thinger....
If you are wrenching, a set of gearwrenches are good to have in the box
And if you don't have a box......well, that gift card is a good start to getting all your stuff organized.

Actually if you add them to your cart right now they are $29.99.
Stubby metric and standard wrenches, from the little itty bitty sizes all the way up to 22mm/1".
Personally, for $100, I can get a mastercraft maximum tool kit from Cambodian Tire that literally has every size of socket (1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive) you could possibly ever need, and it includes both six and twelve point sets. Real chrome, fine adjustment ratchets.
Basically, ratchets, sockets, and wrenches. Throw specialty screw drivers in there, you can literally never have enough of these basic hand tools.
And if you don't have a place to properly and neatly store them, well there is your next suggestion!
