Being a fan of antique and classic tractors, I love this video.

Yeah steam tractor has a weight and therefore a traction advantage. The draw bar angle is just a bonus. I am actually impressed with the Deere plowing backwards
Timing is also of no object to the steam tractor in this situation as it makes full torque from a stop. That's why he lets the green tractor pull him for a few feet, doesn't matter.
Green machine was probably 7000+ pounds.
Steam machine was probably 20K+.
End of story.
Given the right weight and gearing, I could wax him with a 5hp Briggs.
(Saw green tractor) ..."that doesn't look steam powered to me"
(Saw 2nd tractor).... "aaaaaah.... I gotta quit drinking..."
I Saw a similar demonstration when the CAT tracked tractors where being introduced. They had just ran the "ultramodified 7 engined" Pulling tractors. After the last one had been eliminated they hooked up the CAT and did a full pull and then turned around and just kinda dragged the sled around like it wasn't there.
In reply to Jerry From LA:
In all reality from the size of that "Road Locomotive", its probably about 30 drawbar horsepower and 100 or so pulley horsepower.

And those cat tracked tractors won't sink or dig in......which oddly enough makes them less capable of pulling than a properly weighted wheeled tractor. They only exist due to "compaction" concerns in certain areas of the country.

Notice it was a bit exaggerated on each side of the equation.
This is my family's idea of a road locomotive...

It's not the only one we own. We have two others that need rebuilding. Here's one back in the day:
