I am stunned that someone else put this car on his list. I had actually typed that in, and then erased it. I have been semi-actively searching for one of these for the past few months.
Many years ago, I was in Newport, Rhode Island with my girlfriend and I saw two of them on the same day. I was stunned that Ferrari made a sedan of any sort. There was something regal, but practical about it. They were never officially sold here, but there are a few around. Most Ferrari guys don't care for them, but I have always wanted one.
I have never seen one, but IMO they are the best looking Ferrari that you could really still use. I dont care for any of the new ones that much, and all the better looking older ones cost too much now.
I think it was a combination of those tail lights and those wheels on an upright sedan that grabbed me.
perfectly restored versions of 2 of my first few cars...
"E" type
Mk II (or X) sedan
built and sorted B16 or 18 powered CRX for the track
resto-mod track car .... fiberglass '55 Chevy with C6 running gear
some type of 4x4 like Jay mentioned...
They are "affordable" when viewed within the context of 12 cylinder Ferraris. But they are fairly rare in the US. I only know of three that are currently for sale in the country.
Usually like $15-$35k to purchase, I won't be buying one unless i really did win the lottery though, I cant imagine parts are cheap. How much is a set of TRX tires now, $6k?

That's a negotiating tool. There are ways around that little obstacle.

Ugh i sure hope so...
Just how horrible would one of these be to maintain? For $15k , terrible idea to try to get one instead of a near-perfect IS300?
One that wouldnt be as much of a horrible idea would likely be $25k, and have an automatic. If you actually wanted to use it a lot, probably a horrible idea though. I always think about how to get windshield glass for cars like that, I had to spend $775 to replace the glass in my milano after it got smashed by road debris, and it was already chipped again by the time i sold it.
Keep in mind that any purchases I made would be after serious driving school time. We'd also keep the cars we had now.
What five cars would I choose? I'd take the most expensive saleable cars that I could sell fot the highest prices, say 15-30 million. "Retire" and raise holy hell in a seriously modified black Exige. And I'd wear a black cape and pencil thin mustache and often laugh maniacally.
67 GTO convertible (into which I would put a Caddy 500)
Esprit S4
MK3 Triumph Spitfire (into which I would transplant a modern, reliable drivetrain)
Diesel big rig hot rod
Import a Holden Ute
Just 5? Thats easy:
1) Lancia Stratos,
2) GT-40,
3) Lada 1200,
4)Toyota Land Cruiser (FJ40),
5) Probably a couple of RX-7's, maybe a 3-rotor, and maybe that 4-rotor motor I've been dreaming about
5) Some Muscle car.
5) Trabant
5) The original Toyota Tundra (not that fat Dodge looking thing they have now)
5) Alfa 8c
5) and probably a second hand Honda Civic for the wife to drive.

My first three choices are dependant on the weather, my mood and the height of Kilomanjaro on any given Thursday.
I can't lock in.
Of course I'd have to buy one of these....
...to tow this around.
Lets see how Mrs. 914 reacts to flying with me, I know she''s not impressed with my automotive abilities. Besides, one seat gliders are cheaper.
