I find myself cruising the Tamiyas at towerhobbies.com, missing the stockish 1/10 M02L-M w/Beetle and Brat bodies I built in '98. Anyone have any good electrics or nitros to show off?

I haven't messed with R/C in maybe 15 years, about the time when my friends were ditching their electric cars for gassers. Now that battery tech has progressed, I hear that electric is where it's at again. Are any of you guys running lithium ion yet? How's it compare to the gas power & the ni-cd cars of back in the day?

I don't have any photos anymore. If anyone is into the old (and it was old school when I got it) Tamtech stuff (1/24th scale), I've got one complete and one almost complete car that I'd let go.

As for what I own from back in the day (I think I last raced in the '95 or so). I've got an Associated RC10L that I updated with the "world" front end. I've also got a Losi JRX-Pro...back when they had a "graphite" chassis but had gone to typical H-arm suspension. Basically the second generation (right after the JRX-2).

I have olde skool prints of some of my stuff, nothing I can easily post.

I had an RC10 built on an A&L trailing arm chassis, there wasn't anything Associated left except the front suspension mount blocks. That thing was quick and handled like a dream. I sold it to buy a Losi buggy with the 5 link system, that was a mistake. After I reworked it to use H arms it was better but still nowhere near the A&L RC10.

I had a Losi monster truck, that one was pretty cool, it was the later type which came with H arm suspension.

I had a TRC PRO-10 'pan' car, it had a carbon fiber pan with a 'floating' motor pod. The problem was that CF conducts electricity to a certain extent and thus it was plagued with RFI. After I got fiberglass motor pod sections and put the antenna and electrics on Lexan 'pads' the RFI was much reduced but still never went away. You couldn't really get comfortable driving it because stupid stuff would happen. It didn't matter whether I used Futaba, NOVAK or TEKIN, all the electronics did the same damn thing. My buds running Bolinks etc with fiberglass never had problems, we even swapped my electrics onto a fiberglass 1/10 scale Associated pan car, they worked perfectly on that one but gave trouble when swapped back onto my mega $$$ TRC. Dammit.

My favorite car for performance was a Schumacher CAT 4wd. That thing was FANTASTIC. It was also British meaning it stayed broke more than it ran. I sold it with mixed emotions.

And BTW, that dish dryer is a "dryer" not a "storage area"

I had a few RC cars when I was younger, and still have the last one I bought, a Tamiya Avante (the original one, not the Avante 2001 or MkII). I don't have any pictures handy, but I painted it exactly like the one here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamiya_Avante

It's a fun car, but really fragile. I went through front uprights like crazy, as any reasonable collision would crack or bend them.

I've also got an AYK Buffalo, a dirt simple car that was one of the fastest out there until the RC10 came along. Here are some pics of someone else's Boxer, which was basically the same as the Buffalo, just a different body I think. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3049

I can't believe it's been more than 20 years since I bought these things! I always wanted a Tamiya Bruiser (the 3 speed transmission was way too cool) but they were too expensive so I had a Midnight Pumpkin instead.

Sorry for the historical hijack!

I had a Tamiya Monster Beetle, and I was constantly breaking the body off of it. Other than that is was bad ass! At least to a 12 y/o kid.

Don't have any photos but I had a Tamiya BigWig back in the day. My grandfather and I built it together in his workshop. He was really into R/C planes, but there was no way he was gonna let me fly one of those (actually the flying part was easy, it was the landing that was hard )

Last summer my son and I built two cars. A dark thunder buggy and a subaru drift car that we put rally block tires and wheels on.

If i had it to do over, I woudl have gotten him something slower to learn on though - the buggy is trashed and we just haven't gotten around to getting a new chassis pan.

Stop it! This thread is making me want to spend money! Ahhh!

I had some sort of Team Losi with a .10 motor back in the day. Very cool. Except that it refused to idle. If I wanted to stop, I had to drive it up to myself, pick up the rear of the car, and keep revving it. I also completely destroyed it jumping a speedbump at top speed. Apparently the shock towers were made from fiberglass...shattered both of them when the car landed upside down.

I still have my Traxxas buggy which I later on put a truck body and bigger tires. I also have a Tamiya Nissan Primera JTCC. Back then I so wanted a Infinity G20 to fix up as a touring car. I even had vhs tapes of JTCC and BTCC races. Now I have a G20 but not really into fixing it up since it's my dd.

I haven't messed with R/C stuff in a long time, but here are some pictures of my more interesting cars.

This one is a 1/4 scale car. Unfortunately I don't remember who it was made by. It would run a little better than 50 mph. Yes those are really disk brakes on the front. It is powered by a 23cc gas engine similar to a weed eater engine. 1/4 scale car

Same car naked. 1/4 scale car

This one is a OLD 1/8 scale Kyosho. It originally came with a .21ci 2 stroke engine. I converted it to a .26ci 4 stroke. Not real fast, and would eat parts like mad. Never did run this one much.

1/8th Kyosho

Both of these have been sitting on shelves for better than 8 years along with a bunch of others. I even bought a Traxxas Revo a few years ago. My eldest son acquired it a few months ago. At least it isn't going to waste on a shelf...

There are battery packs that will push an off-road truck to 65+ MPH. Ask me how I know.

Lately, I've been rocking Traxxas' Slash. Looks like a real CORR truck . Stupid fun and very tough.

I've got a T-Maxx totally stock except for the Big Bore shocks I just installed. It's riding way too low though so I need to check the oil levels in the shocks and likely remount them to a different hole in the lower suspension arms so raise the chassis. It's pretty darned fast though. I accidentally hit my son with it last year right after I got it - caught him in the legs at top speed and knocked him clean off his feet He was 8 at the time and average height/build. Gotta be careful with these toys.
