A Chinese man has won a court fight against his wife, after suing her, for being ugly.
Jian Feng filed a lawsuit after his wife gave birth to what he says was an ugly baby, saying their daughter did not look like either one of them.
After he accused her of cheating, she admitted to spending $100 thousand on plastic surgery before she got married. That's when he filed for divorce, saying she deceived him and convinced him to marry her under false pretenses.
The judge agreed with him, and awarded him $120 thousand.
Ok, I'm not judging anyone, not making any statements on Chinese law, and not condemning lawyers. I just thought it was funny.
100grand in surgery? I could probably make myself look like a pretty good looking woman for that amount.. she must have been hidious before going under the knife

Could be a 100,000 yen?
the RMB is trading at one Yuan to .106 dollars.. so that is about 16,000 USD... judging by the billboard on the way to work.. that would get me a set of breasts.. so maybe she was not quite the beast...
of course.. there is no saying how far 16,000 USD goes where they are.

The Chinese have finally recognized the benefits of capitalism. Maybe they can be in the vanguard for tort refrorm.

And, why doesn't Dad just get his government to pay for his kid(s) reconstructive surgery?
I'm with him, she entered into that contract under false pretenses. He married her for her gene pool and got a cesspool.
so "face value" is 120,000?

I see what you did there and it was ugly. I will sue you now.
I sorta understand his point. I met a green eyed brunette once who really got my attention. Next morning she had brown eyes. Not that they were ugly brown eyes, just felt like I'd been lied to, ya know?
This would be a cheap upgrade for her, probably....am I right? :P
I'm trying hard not to be judgmental... but that sounds like an incredibly shallow (and sad) marriage. She is better off without him.

Dude, it's China... it's socially acceptable to kill your kid if it's a girl....
Also, it appears she did not tell him about it beforehand. That's the part that gets me. I also think that to call your kid ugly (even if he/she is) is incredibly shallow. Seems to me another case of two chickenE36 M3 people who really deserve each other.
confuscious say.. " couple that shallow together.. never drown"
I believe you have the right to certain expectations. I'd like to think that if I married a girl, I wouldn't find out later she had been a dude before the operations. I'm picky that way. Extreme case, I know, but one of the things about marriage is that most people want to procreate.
With that in mind you look for a mate that has qualities you'd like to meld with yours. You can't know it all, but the obvious things aren't the things you should have to worry about.
Ever met this cute girl/guy on the internet and you just seemed to hit it off, based upon your posts anyway? But when you meet him/her he/she/it smells like a flock of pigs, is missing most of their teeth & had at least one leg bitten off by a great white? Or some approximation thereof that turns you completely off.
The point is physical attraction is a very big part of any pairing. If you can't even trust that, what can you trust? What else might she be hiding from him? Genetic mutations or progeria run in her family? And now he's responsible for a child......that's enough to mess of many people's minds. You want your kids to be perfect.
I'm not saying the guy is totally right, I'm just saying there's a lot more to this than that short, short article. We don't have a clue what his expectations were nor his mindset. It's just possible that it's not as shallow as it sounds upon first hearing about it.
(Dusts off my 25 year old "Pacific Rim Culture" knowledge)
According to one of my college professors (who, BTW, had an incredible facial tick from a parasite he picked up in China), traditional Chinese culture tends to view marriage more from the angle of a business transaction than a personal relationship. The physical attractiveness, and perceived ability to bear healthy, attractive children are the main "selling point" for a perspective wife. You know, kind of like Hollywood marriages. Don't misunderstand me, not saying its right, or even universally true in China anymore, but that's the background he may be coming from. That said, its a sad, shallow person in any culture that would sue their spouse and try to prove in court that their own child is ugly.
Kazoo is correct. That is why I refer to my "ex-fiancee" She was from Mainland china, here to study. We got involved, got engaged.. and when her parents heard, I am sure she heard their anguished screams from all the way across the world.
She went home for the summer.. and never came back. We kept in contact for a while, but it did not take her parents long to find her a "good chinese man" and get her married off
This will undoubtedly spawn a new pre-nup clause!
