He probably apologized to the bear later.

"The bear then attacked the male, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and legs."

A neighbour arrived with a gun and shot the bear several times. It retreated into nearby woods where it died of its injuries.

That's insane.

Polar bears are kinda terrifying, they are one of a few animals on the "view humans as food" list.

I had a friend work in the oil fields of Canada, near bears. He could not arm himself with anything but a flare gun. He got paid well - and rightfully so.

But, wow, jumping on a polar bear is nuts.

Apologize not likely, but he may well of thanked the bear for giving its life and thereby honour him with a skin and meat.

That is true love! He now has a free pass to drink Molson's and watch hockey for life...

I bet that man can leave the toilet seat up for the rest of his life and not hear about it.

I think the neighbor gets to come over and leave the toilet seat up too. Glad both stepped up!

Of course he did, a Florida man would have jumped on an alligator to save his wife.

Fixed that for you, because I feel like the "average" Florida Man would go out of his way to save a gator.

When I was 15, my dad and I were driving and there was hurt gator with three legs laying across the road we were on. In the distance, we see a truck coming on the other side of the road, not slowing down. We knew the poor gator wouldn't move fast enough.

My dad pulls over, hops out of the car, gets behind the gator, grabs his tail and basically drags him off the road back towards the water. As my dad and the gator get back in the grass the truck blows past us. We called fish and game and they sent someone to grab the gator I think. So yes, Florida men will go out of their way to save a gator.

If I lived in Polar Bear country I would keep a loaded .338 Winchester Magnum rifle by the door and have a .44 Mag strapped on all the time.

I can't confirm it, but I've been led to believe that people who live in areas populated by Polar Bears don't lock their cars just in case someone needs refuge.

Yep a pretty common practice in small towns with polar bears around.
