Well, that was a berkeleying workout, 30-some I think.

I ain't exactly new here but is there a better way to clean up attacks besides tagging?

Maybe allot some booter priviliges to the late-nite members, we could get rid 'o that for ya. Bing, bang boom, gone.

Yes, there is. Use the '!' button on a few of them, then email the user name to Tom Heath.

That's been discussed, and The Authoritay ain't leaving the paid staff's hands. I don't think that's a problem.

What I don't understand is why.

So they get paid by spamming- ok, I get that.

But the spam here is SO bad, and is SO obvious that all the time spamming this board is a waste of time. So, since nobody is clikcking their links, they are earning no spamming credit, and therefore no money.

Why keep coming back?

There may be something to the method- it appears that they have a method to choose a certain region of old threads to spam- and one even wonders if there is some kind of automation.

Anyway, I just don't get board spamming- here or on other boards. It does not provide any traffic, but just headaches to those in charge (and thanks GRM for cleaning it up).

Short of user moderation, charging folks a nominal fee to create an account (two or three bucks) seems to work really well. Metafilter and Something Awful both do it and have essentially zero spam in spite of the huge user bases.

Okay, last night's tagging is cleaned up. Sorry about the mess and thanks for the heads-up.

I don't think they are after anyone clicking on the links. I think what they are after is getting teh googlze to raise the search ranking because other web pages link to them.

So the search engines look more for connections as opposed to actual clicks? That can be put in the "teach me something new" thread for me.

I go to a site where there are more "people" registering in a day than active posts in a week.
