David Bowie age 69 passed away after a 18 month battle with cancer.
Wow. A friend of mine from Germany posted a picture of him a couple of days ago and I just thought it was kind of random. I didn't even know that he was sick. Maybe it was more widely known in Europe.
I got to see him on the Glass Spider tour in 1988. It was like a Broadway production. He was amazing. One of a kind. I thought he would live forever.
God Speed Ziggy Stardust. Ground Control is out of range now.

Seemed appropriate for GRM
I'd only heard that he was sick a few days ago.
I really enjoy his early seventies stuff, moden "glam rock" is lame in comparison.
I was never a huge Bowie fan, but I did have a 45 of Major Tom back in it's day. And now it's stuck in my head.
Early reports are stating that news of his death has caused a panic in Detroit.

I hope he and Freddie are belting out a kickass version of "Under Pressure" right now somewhere.
RIP, Thin White Duke. You were one of a kind.
Lets also not forget that Bowie also introduced a mostly unknown, young Texas guitar player to the whole world on "Let's Dance".
As a guy who came of age in the 80's and who every girl I was interested in played the changes bowie album constantly I always thought I wasn't a fan. And then time goes on and I heard more and more of his songs that just resonated with me.

The dude was the rock star that the world needed at the time. He taught a generation that it was ok to let your freak flag fly. He also never stopped making music and once the cocaine and mega fame faded still continued working it. He went so far as to start a new band without his name in the title so he could continue to explore new ideas.
I remember an interview with TV smith of the Adverts where he said Bowie was the first artist on TV that it was a guarantee your parents would hate. When he came on "old grey whistle test" every adult in the nation left the room and it was as if every teen in Britain bonded in some way.
