It's here! It's the preseason, I know, and it's even crappier because of the lockout, but I'm excited. I will be watching TV once again! I am a diehard BUCs fan, like the Bills because of my parents/brother/family being from Buffalo and they are fanatics. NCAA I am a UCF, UF, and FAU fan (I've spent tuition dollars at each!).
Sorry NFL, you're dead to me. I'm not watching, wearing, or listening to any of your crap anymore.
I'm going to go to a couple high school games and watch college games to get my football fix.
Been ready since february! I hope this lockout ends soon, football is the only non-motorsport sport I follow, besides UK basketball.
Personally I'm a titans fan. Really just anybody but the cowboys, mostly since that's who my father-in-law roots for.

now that's football
Walked into the bedroom last night and the wife had football on. San Diego and somebody. The first play I watched was some return guy taking a kickoff a couple yards deep in the end zone and running it back for a TD. Only one guy managed to touch him, and he didn't quite knock him down. Score! Awesome play.
I'm like, Monday Night Football? WTF? It's Thursday. Wife might have DVR'ed it. Damned if I know.

I've felt that way for years. I'll tune in for the super bowl and that's about it for the NFL for me. I do not wish to give up all my Sundays to sit on the couch. I do not wish to participate in paying the salaries of the players, the coaches , or the team owners.
College football is even worse since the players don't get paid..at least not legally (other than their scholarships), but the whole racket is still a multi-million dollar industry.
I always wonder how football has such a rabid following of fans who never play the game.
I live in the Philadelphia area, so the sports talk around here is non-stop. The Phillies are a monster. Now there is a ton of hype around what the Eagles have done. I hate all the crap that's happened with the NFL recently, but I enjoy the game of football. I just can't get into college sports. They're kids, I just can't get into it, and I think there's waaaay too much pressure put on them anyway. Besides, I went to Temple, so until the past few years, their football team was a joke. So I'm left with the NFL, unless I want to watch the CFL.
Ahhh...a good time to be a Philly sports fan. Could have 3 major sports championships here in one year.

Grew up in the SW PA /Pittsburgh area so it is hard to not be a football fan. Through various circumstances I got to meet/talk to a number of players now in the Pro HOF while they were in high school.
Naturally I like the Steelers, but since I have lived in MD since 1966 I also like the Ravens. This year I may have to root for the Seahawks especially if their rookie quarterback gets a lot of playing time and looks as good as he did Thursday night.
been a bengals fan since before I could walk. Will be for life. WHODEY!

(replies from Poopshovel will not be read)
I've never liked the Bengals, but for some reason I now find myself drawn to them.......
This Saturday real football starts.

There's always one of you....the only reason the sport is so popular are the world is that even kids in 3rd world/developing countries can grab a coconut or cantaloupe and play. I like playing SOCCER but watching it up there with golf, tennis, and paint drying. And the acting is worse than Anderson Verajao's when someone grazes his jersey.

Tell me when it's Monster Truck season.

I would much rather watch real football then American football. Let's stand around for 30 seconds then have a bunch of fat men slam into each other for 5-10 seconds and stand around again. And why the hell is it called american football, the ball is kicked like 3-4 times a game.
J-E-T-S, Jets Jets Jets!!!!!!!!!
Gonna be smoke and mirrors all season to get to ten wins I think. But I can always hope.

honestly, I never got it either. Everyone I work with is a rabid football fan.. so it's all I hear all winter
My favorite moment of the lockout was when Ray Lewis said that crime would increase if there was no NFL season.
We know, Ray. That's why I'm glad they got it worked out so Ray Lewis doesn't have to do all that crime this fall.

I'm with you. QPR are back in the premiership (not a fan of the new owners though) and its time to restart my Fox Soccer channel subscription.

Yes but there are bases and balls involved. With football, the foot is hardly involved at all. I mean it would make sense if it was called handball.

I actually have money for a Fox Soccer channel subscription this year. Sept 12 Newcastle vs QPR. I'll be rooting for the black and white.
I am a Buc'n'Lions fan... Both of those losers are "going to have great seasons this year"...

Yeah, I'm sorry but this Merikan has given Soccer a chance but given up on it. In person it is fantastic to watch a game. (I've attended a World Cup Game in 1994) On TV though.......no thanks. I'd much rather watch golf, tennis, hockey, football, baseball.....ANYTHING except soccer. I find it more boring than watching glue dry. And yes, the pathetic grabbing of the knee, or ankle each time someone bumps into them is even lamer than the acting the NBA guys do.
Sorry, I like to see strong, fast, large people trying to murder one another.
To each his own, but I enjoy televised soccer about as much as Malcom McDowell enjoys Beethoven post "adjustment" surgery.

Thank you Joe. Watching a bunch of nancies kick a ball around for 90 minutes and then act like they've just been shot with a .45 every time someone runs into them is no fun. Football has breaks, but the action is exciting. SOCCER players are in great shape and condition, no doubting that, some are great athletes, but the sport is nowhere near as exciting as AMERICAn football or Aussie Rules Football. I've played a plethora of sports in my days from organized school teams, organized league teams, and inter murals...and by far my favorite sport to play is football! Doesn't matter if it is flag, full contact, two hand touch, whatever. It's preference, so if you don't care about it then waste your post elsewhere :)
And for those of you to lazy to hit Ctrl+T to open a new tab in your browser (that is if you have an up to date browser that allows you to do so) and perform a search of why football is called football....well then here you go.
