A friend in Indianapolis is looking for a cracked or otherwise unusable 6-71 Detroit head for the purposes of making a cutaway. Figured it was worth a shot asking here.

Have him check Marine places, they used the Detroits longer and some still in use. Does he need a 6-71 only (inline 6)? If not then plenty of other Detroit heads out there.  Deboss Garage has done some videos on Detroits, even blew one up, maybe they have something?

When he gets it done, post up some picts, would like to see what he does.

From what I remember of the Detroit Diesels they were a semi-modular design.  Any 71 series engine should show the same things as any other, they just had different head configurations for the different engine configurations. Inline 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, and V-type 6, 8, 12, 16, 24

So the V8 would use two of the I4 heads.  The V12 would use two I6 heads, etc.

If he doesn't need one from a specific engine it opens more options.

Crown Coach school busses used a lot of 6-71s mounted mid-engine laid flat under the floor.  Most of those have been being crushed on California trade in deals, but there are still a lot of these in the So California areas to check for.
