I just bought a nice 9000 pound two post for 500 Canadian. I would suggest being patient and keep your eyes open.
And it's a tow behind grader too.
Doesn't look inherently scary to me - at least no more than any other scissor lift. You get used to the scary part after awhile when you realize it's a lot more stable than appearances would indicate. The trailer part is interesting, although I don't know if it's worth such a premium over a new but less mobile scissor lift for less money.
