No title.  I am an Illinois Resident, but the trailer lives in Michigan, and I bought it in Wisconsin... Wisconsin has no registration/titling for small trailers, and I didn't even look for Illinois and Michigan as it has only been used on private property in my ownership.

It used to hold a small sailboat, and was customized to fit it. The sailboat now lives in pieces in the junkyard.

Located in the Marinette/Menominee area (north of Green Bay). I can drag it to the Chicago area if anyone is interested.

I'm asking $300. Make me an offer. You cannot insult me, but I reserve the right to make fun of dumb offers.

Or trades, I'm interested in fishing gear, 6 string guitars, 12 string guitars, mandolins, widescreen computer monitors, a 1st-generation Tundra Topper... Let me know what you have, though if it isn't one of those things I'm likely not interested (and probably not interested even if it is one of those things)

Looks like a good start to an autox tire trailer if someone shortens the tongue.

If I was still autocrossing, that is exactly what I'd do with it. It is actually extremely solid, I'd trust this one way more than any HF trailer.

Dad and I talked about putting a plywood deck on, or a box on, and using it as a utility trailer for the snowthrower/lawnmower/4Wheeler, but ultimately wanted the space it was taking up more.

oh, man

Ball size? how old are the tires? Do you know the registration process in IL without a title?

What does that tag say for 'gross capacity'? Looks like 608 to me, which makes no sense. kg?

Robbie, I'm currently on hour 3.5 of conference calls this morning.

  • I'll check the gross capacity on it as soon as I can get off the phone.
  • 90% sure the ball is a 1 7/8. Will double check that too.
  • Tires have an 09 date code on them. I doubt they have more than 100 miles on them. They're in good condition, but with 11 year old tires they need to be replaced.

Illinois tiling... Well, that is something I'm no longer familiar with. I'd think our best bet would be to give you a Michigan Bill of Sale. My dad has the same name as me and a Michigan address. Walk into the DMV, tell them you've bought a Michigan trailer (where they do not have titles for trailers under 2,500 lbs according to Google), and be on your way.

Alternatively, you can register it in Maine with a Bill of Sale - this may be the most cost effective way to do it, because titling in Illinois is expensive now. I looked into this when I owned a Harbor Freight Trailer, but at that time registration for an Illinois trailer was about $20 a year. That changed in 2020, they're now like $120 a year or something - in 2019, my dad had 3 trailers registered in Illinois. In 2020, my dad has 4 trailers registered in Michigan (he added another boat).

totally no rush. If you've got a moment, I'm interested in the width between the fenders as well.

45" between the fenders, 1 7/8 ball, and it says 600lbs gross capacity... which honestly seems quite low to me. By at least 600 lbs.

Just looked up the patent number (2,799,416). Looks like it was in the 1957 US Book of patents.

Definitely do the Maine registration. It's cheap, easy, and what I did when I acquired a trailer up there that had no title history. You can either keep it registered in Maine as long as you own it(which is cheaper than IL), or take the Maine registration into the IL DMV who will issue you a title for it.

I think the length of that tongue is probably what limits the load capacity.

This is close to what I need but I think there are too many things I'd need to re-do to make it worth it for me.

Yeah, I read through your thread - I don't think this is an answer for you. Certainly heavier than the Harbor Freight option, and harder to store.

You'll need to log in to post.
