EDIT: got an engine, but still need a few M42 parts:
- coil pack
- pigtail of wiring harness that goes to the coil pack from the main harness
- radiator shroud
- exhaust from the header bottom (or as much as you have).
Small stuff I'll pay to ship. Exhaust, if you're in the mid-atlantic can pick up.
I don't have a M42 but if you're replacing your M10 I would be interested in it.
May I suggest the aluminum m52? (oh yeah, it's just more money right?)

I have an M50 in my e30 rally car which I do like but my goal for this new build is different and I want to stick with a four cylinder.
I also don't want to mess with OBD2. I'm already very familiar with m42 swaps having done a few of them already but unfortunately I sold all those engines a few years ago for peanuts lol. Figures.

I will keep you posted. If I find an m42 for a good price I'll pick that up, otherwise I will just build the M10.
Incidentally it is a E30 m10 with L-jet rather than an earlier carb model
I have an m42 in my truck and it's just so... anemic. It's definitely revhappy and fun to throttle around but I just wish it had some more ponies. I just figured the aluminum would keep the lightweight aspect plus being unique as they aren't swapped very often. (also because they're just not that common)

I've got the carb intake setup ready to go. Bump in hopes you find a M42.

Yeah, not a powerhouse. But I won two rallycross championships with one in the rally car :) The M42 is somewhat improved with a Conforti chip (better power band and higher redline) and a single-mass flywheel, I can say that for sure. But yeah, there's a reason I put the M50 in the rally car lol. But for the things I want to do with this new build (not a race car, and will be under 2400lbs, a 4-cylinder is what I'm looking for (I have access to a couple near-free M20s, but I don't want to do those).
Yeah, the Z M52 is nice and light for sure - Dan Downey has one in his rally e30. But for my current budget build, M5x swap involves more $$ and effort than I want to do at the moment (having already done it in the other e30). And the aluminum M52s definitely don't come cheap these days! On the other hand, the lack of power in the M42 is one reason I've been able to pick them up cheap in the past (though, they're getting harder to find these days too).
