I just got a high mileage Frontier with a blown head gasket (maybe) and am going to try to fix it. However, if I can find a good shape replacement engine, I would rather do that. Anyone have anything? I am in Central MO but if you are willing to ship, I am willing to assuming that the price is right. Thanks!

$600, 130 miles away with "free shipping".  Bet if you offered to go pick it up it would be $300.00.

Pick 'n'pull shows two nearby Frontiers with a KA24 (one in STL, one in Springfield).

I'm assuming the long block from a first gen altima will work?  If so, there are tons in the pick 'n' pull yards.   12 in KC, six in STL, five in Springfield.  Find one that wound up there because of an obvious wreck (meaning probably not mechanical failure) and you're in business.

I hadn't thought of the altima. Not idea if the castings are the same (they should be though). I was looking on Car-part.com and was getting depressed.

Should be much easier to RNR a head and gasket than to swap a motor no?

Though with new gaskets and all the "while im in there" stuff like water pumps and belts and machining the head flat I think the head gasket job would be more than $300.

My main concern is that the bottom end has over 210k miles and had some seriously black oil. First step is definitely see if this motor is salvagable. Just throwing out a feeler.

Yeah, FWD is apparently very different to rwd.
