Hello,

 

I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 71 dune buggy with a 1600 dual port engine. When I brake the buggy pulls hard to the left. Does this mean the right front brake needs adjusting?

Welcome to the forum.

 

Might be time to have a good look at both sides. Be good to know how comfortable you are with doing mechanic stuff.

Have you checked tire pressures?

Have you given the wheel a good wiggle side to side to check for loose bits?

Correct me if I am wrong, but these are drums right?

Are both sides adjusted the same?

Is one side leaking?

One of the flexible brake lines might be collapsed.

Someone might have replaced one slave cylinder and left fluid soaked shoes in place?

Someone might have replaced a slave cylinder and not bled the line properly.

Possibly the wrong slave cylinder  bore from China? ( Why best to replace in  pairs)

I don't know about VW bugs, but for some cars it is possible to install the shoes wrong. There might be a leading and trailing shoe and they might be installed wrong.

Do a corner bounce; A dead shock-absorber can make for funny chassis dynamics

Repeate all of the above for the rear corners just because problems don't always originate where we think they do.

i'd be willing to bet the postons are stuck in the right front wheel cylinder

If that has the dual leading shoe design (has two half-cylinders) there is also a possibility that one side has the wrong side brakes on it.

Or just gummed up flex hoses.
