I need to make a new upper ball joint and steering arm mount for my crosskart project. I have 2 different pieces of aluminum that I can machine it from but would like some advise on which grade I should use. I have both 2024 and 6061 available and would like some input on which would be a better choice.

Thanks,

2024 is a bit "stronger" and less susceptible to fatigue compared 6061 while still being easily machinable.  However welding 2024 forms microcracks that are extremely difficult to detect and may suddenly fail.

No welding involved, just a bunch of cuts on the mill and 3 holes drilled through it.

2024 is the way to go then.
