In F1 pit lane garages, there are these really large light/power/data boxes/pods above the cars. I've see mechanics plug tools and other stuff into them to work on the cars. Does anyone know what they are called? (I think they're referred to as hoods...?) I'm trying to find specs on these things for an upcoming project. I know each team builds their own. Below are pics of Ferrari, McLaren and Redbull ones.
I'm not sure about the F1 specific terminology, but in the lab world they are called service panels.
I don't know what they're called but now I want one.

In my little corner of the pharma manufacturing world, we call them SUPs - Service Utility Panels. Usually 2'x4' and contain various electrical, data and gas & air outlets.
I'm sure something like wae posted wouldn't be too hard to duplicate from wood or metal (up to the builder to make sure it's actually safe). My concern is the F1 garages generally don't have a very high ceiling or need for a high ceiling given the scale of the cars. The car can be two feet off the floor and the rear wing will still be chest high. I'm not sure about something similar in a garage designed for a less focused use.
