Hey all, new member here! I've been building an 01 MR2 with K24 for a fun street car with light track use (HPDE etc.). I ordered a roll bar from an UK company, in part because options are limited in the USA (I can't run Hard Dog because of mounting points). I just received the roll bar and overall I am happy with what I got for the price. But I have some concerns about adhereing to SCCA and NASA rules and was hoping you all can give me some input. The closest track to me is VIR and when ordering a bar I was generally looking at their rules (link here), which seem to mirror SCCA.
Here is the bar I ordered.
Concerns:
1. The plate thickness isn’t up to spec per SCCA. They require 3/16 inch, whereas the MRC bar is about 3.2 mm (NASA lists 1/8 inch, so I'm good there). NASA also says plates should have "a minimum dimension on any side of 2.5 [in]". I'm also good there. For the plate thickness, what I’m thinking is I can weld on thicker plates to the existing plates. Can anyone confirm this is allowed? I can’t seem to find anything online about adding thickness via welding.
2. Unlike in the photos on the website, the back section of the bar is bolt in. I don’t think this matters, as I’ve seen other bars do this (no doubt to reduce shipping costs), but I'm not sure if the rear braces need to be welded in. Can anyone confirm this is okay per rules?
